Only my two cents....but Biden's team did exactly what they were supposed to do....avoid any involvement in the talks over the replacement....focus on the White House and the agenda there. The state did the best thing....picking a top-notch guy who knows precisely how everything works....and this entire discussion gets carried over to 2010....where it should be.

I still cannot understand why the Obama team even got involved in this mess....they should have focused on the White House....not the old senate seat. This was pure stupidity to carry things in this direction.

I agree, if someone would make a great Senator (as Beau might well), he can prove that to the people of his state and they can vote for him. No need for special treatment. BTW, I read a great explanation of the scandal at http://www.meltingpotproject.com/mpp/eenie-meenie-minie-beau.html

+1 in the "outgoing senator's choice" column. Saying it belongs to the people is lip service. The only way it means anything at all is if there is an immediate election (which I don't support). As long as any third party is appointing a replacement the phrase is meaningless.

I'm gonna take a guess that Beau Biden's chances at becoming a senator in two years aren't really something that Barack and Joe are really focusing on.
