The Republican Party is a poor candidate to put forth any banner, considering the repugnant positions they have taken in recent years with regard to foreign policy and domestic issues, MINUS economic issues. I actually think Republican economic ideas are appealing to alot of people. If the massive "stimulus" and/or money supply inflation Obama may institute in the next few years does not work, the people will hunger for an alternative, and if the Republicans offer an alternative people may feel they have to go for it.

There is one fact of political power in the U.S. government. If you vote for a Republican, any Republican no matter how "moderate", you only give power to Mitch McConnell. Virtually every one of the moderates in the party have caved to arm twisting by their party leadership. If you are really alienated by the agenda of the current Republican leadership you just can't take that risk.
