"... I liked back in World War I and World War II when you’d go to the theater and you’d see your troops on, you know, the screen ..."

i find this unintentionally hilarious. i wish i could remember things from before i was born, like Joe apparantly can

Dennis, that was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. It's not like I'd go up to McCain and punch him in the face if I saw him.

However...

I think it was extraordinarily irresponsible to make a guy like Joe into an "everyman" celebrity when he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about, and didn't even know what he was talking about when he questioned Obama the first time. And the only reason Joe was created in the first place is because McCain wanted to dishonestly spin a very small soundbite against Obama and it didn't work. But now we have Joe giving us gems like, "I think media should be abolished from, uh, you know, reporting."

But hey, it sure is Mavericky! :-)

In some sense, Joe shouldn't worry. Nowadays the media doesn't report on the actual war, they only report on deaths in war - and only the deaths that they think are important. The media usually doesn't give away troop movements or strategy, because they aren't really that interested in it. When CBS news would report "X-amount of Marines killed in a roadside bomb in Ramadi today," did any of us learn what those marines were actually doing there?

The whole narrative of the current Israel/Hamas conflict is not what caused it, or what Israel or Hamas is hoping to achieve, or how they are strategically and tactically achieving it. Instead, the entirety of the news is focussed on how many Palestinian children are being killed in explosions presumably caused by Israeli armaments. They want Israel to stop. And they are trying to convince you to believe the same through their biased reporting.

As much as there might be government propaganda, there most certainly is media propaganda, as time and time again the Associated Press and Reuters have been proven to be advocates for the perceived weaker side in these asymmetrical wars. Anybody remember the photoshopped AP photos of smoke from Beirut, those pictures of the "Lebanese toy-collector" or "green-helmet guy" in 2006? No? Well of course not. Why would the mainstream press reveal their complicity in disseminating propaganda from "resistance" groups that the editors, in their own minds, pledge solidarity with?

Even if we bloggers stop reporting on Joe, the mainstream media wont give up. There are still some ratings they can beat out of that dead horse. I think there may be a hoof still intact.

This guy is an idiot on a level that is almost un-paralleled. He doesn't know we had reporters in WWII? That said, he must know because someone shot the reels of footage that he refers to people watching in theatres. What he's really complaining about is all the silly Americans who've decided to have opinions and use those crazy freedoms we were given and still fight for today. You know, freedom of speech and all that stupid nonsense.

I ask you all, when is the American populace going to get behind this war effort and support it. You know, write songs about how great the troops are, start paying their taxes, etc. He's an idiot.
