OwenK – I agree that Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe from our great state of Maine are excellent powerful senators. I’ll give the edge to Snowe however. I’ve written both senators many times. Only Snowe took the time to send a long informative reply, even if it probably was written by a staffer. Collins has never even sent an acknowledgment email. Even the Bush White House could manage that much.

Mark-NC – Extreme right will bash Obama and any Dem, liberal or moderate, no matter what they do. It’s how they get ratings. Then again the extreme left will do the same to Repubs of any color. Both extremes are just screaming at each other really, not at the middle.

Mark-NC, there are a lot of moderate republicans, notably Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, my home state. They’re Republicans because they believe in small government, but their reasonable social stances let them win in a liberal state. You’d be surprised how many politicians are like this.

I’d like to believe that this statement is true – doubt it though!

I haven’t seen any hint that there is any such thing as a “moderate” Republican. I expect them to block vote against everything Obama does or tries to do, and I expect the recent record number of fillibusters to fall to the second most in history.

Further, I expect to see Republicans calling Obama a failure within weeks of now (I give it until March at the latest to follow the lead of Limbaugh and Hannity) – and continue this theme straight through to the next election regardless of what happens in reality.

They can’t help it – it’s who they are and it’s the only way they can win any election, anywhere!
