I think $2 per 1000 ad impressions for Instapundit maybe what they paid him, but not what they could possibly claim to get from an advertiser. In other words, it’s clear they weren’t making any profit, and losing a lot of the equity they’d gotten from the venture capitalist.

Little too much like watching sausage being made for my tastes. I don’t question your math as I have not researched ad rates vis-a-vis traffic, but it’s all rather pointless.

At the end of the day we’re left wondering, “Is this just another of the many Republican rip-offs and con games we’ve all come to expect?” Well, some of us are left wondering. I’m pretty sure that whenever there’s a Republican involved, there is likely some form of criminality or sexual licentiousness afoot. It’s how they roll.

They took venture money.

$200,000 annual profit is totally unacceptable to a VC. They are not looking for a sustainable business model. They’re not looking to build a community.

They want a home run.

If the PJM board of directors got shown this kind of result, there is no doubt in my mind what happened next. “Where’s the growth model? Where’s the revolution in online media you promised us?”

And most importantly, “What’s our exit strategy?”
