Deal Reportedly Reached on Stimulus Bill

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in Economy, Senate, Stimulus

Reports indicate the Senate has reached a tentative deal on the stimulus package. The deal will likely require Senator Ted Kennedy’s vote, who has not been in Washington since suffering a seizure on inauguration day. No word on which Republican senators may be crossing party lines but that will likely be revealed soon.

As of yet, there are no specifics on the deal, but it’s reported to be a $780 billion plan. That’s $157 billion less than the bill passed by the House. I’m glad to see some of the fat has been trimmed. I know it’s foolish to think no unnecessary money will be spent by a plan this large, but I consider a $157 billion savings to be a small moral victory for those of us who’ve worried the plan was becoming more pork-barrel than economic stimulus.

If this deal does go through, it’s a big victory for President Obama. Not so much for the new bipartisan spirit thing.

More details as they become available.

With millions suffering, jobs bleeding every day, and its time to try everything and pull out all the stops, then isn’t time to stop the stupid 40 year prohibition on Marijuana? Its been said for so many years we could rake in several billion dollars in federal exicse taxes in just one year by the Government legalizing, controlling and taxing weed. Even if its just medical marijuana for patients that have been suffering without it, who can truly reduce their other medical costs by using it. Come on American, wake up and smell the the smoke. Even you record setting hero 8 gold medalist sees the light and knows the advantages of smoking it. Its not the evil week portraited by the paranoid government of the past. It could save the economy, clear jail space (over night) help the farming industry, clothing industry (hemp is great for 1000 uses), there is such a huge list of how this one litle tiny weed can help our economy if people would lighten up their views and really took a serious view at its benefits.
