Since I’m published by Harper (a NewsCorp subsidiary) I’m happy to hear Mr. M renew his commitment to the readers.
But with all due respect to the man who pays for my car, we’re always in the midst of times that will redefine the future. I’m 54. So far: Cold War, polio vaccine, 1967 war, Cuban Missile crisis, Vietnam, Rock and Roll, recreational drugs, OPEC, moon landing, computers and the internet, fall of the Berlin wall, AIDS, cell phones, 9/11, stem cells . . . It’s been one damn thing or another since I was born. It will continue being one damn thing or another going forward.

Not a very remarkable nor prescient comment. Basically on target as long as folks don’t go overboard talking about precious crap like paradigm shifts.
Undoubtedly the relative positions of global power relationships will shift depending on how well various nations are able to respond to current challenges. But nations will continue to interact according to most of the same dynamics we are all familiar with, whether we are talking about fear, power, supply and demand, or anything else.
In other words, meet the new paradigm. Same as the old paradigm.

“We are in the midst of a phase of history in which nations will be redefined and their futures fundamentally altered.â€
With Murdoch later saying
“…when I will start to completely purchase entire countries”
