Alan - this isn't Obama's war, this POS is a Bush legacy screw up left on his desk in the oval office - along with so many other things. I mentioned in an earlier post that there is no sense in a military response to terrorism since terrorism is nothing but a tactic. Tactics can be engaged with multiple responses of which a military solution should be the last option. Unfortunately, a military commitment is a lot like the toothpaste after it is squeezed out of the tube - impossible to get it back to the way it used to be. In the opinion of many, terrorist activities are the best dealt with through effective international police action and diplomacy - not the military. The US military is designed as an effective quick hit of overwhelming force - and they are the best in the world at it. It is not a counter-terrorist force. We're committed now, whether any of us like it or not - and a large troop concentration is needed simply to provide support and cover to those who are already there. They aren't all ground-pounders in the recent 21,000 growth of personnel - there are teachers as well as civil engineers in that group also. I don't think a concentration that small will make much of a difference personally. I do however, truly believe bin-Laden wil be dead or captured within the next 18 months - and that's the real goal here isn't it?
