Common ground is a good place to start. It's sort of a sad measure of the current state of affairs viz-a-viz the prevalence of partisan douchebags that this notion qualifies as some sort of astonishing insight.

Saying nice things about common ground is sensible, and encouraging. And, let's face it, easy. At least when compared to actually, ahem, finding it. So I invite this guy to follow up and go find some. Godspeed. Start with healthcare reform, please. Or it that's too hard, social security solvency.

There's an odd either/or mentality in the GOP right now. It's either "hardcore right" or "compromise." Compromise means that neither party involved gets what they want. What's missing from the GOP message (and frankly, the conservative message right now) is the third solution: clear, well-articulated, realistic ideas that propose a better option. That tends to take a level of insight, courage, and energy that is mostly lacking amongst Republicans right now. So while I 100% agree with the first two lines of Huntsman's quote, the last half of it is missing that critical element.

Huntsman has been on my radar for a while because I had some indirect dealings with him. Smart guy. Kind of like a human version of Romney.
