Absolutely, whoever these staffers are, they are bigger liars than Edwards. As I've commented on my blog (http://thepurplecenter.blogspot.com/2009/05/damned-anonymous-liars-john-edwards.html), it's preposterous to believe that if these guys had got Edwards to the brink of the nomination, they would have blown up his campaign and cost themselves a better than even chance at White House jobs. At thaty point, they would have done everything they could to keep his dirty secret from being exposed.

Now that they've challenged everyone's intelligence with this ludicrous lie, they should be exposed.

You might want to reread what the post said. They didn't plan to wait for him to win. My guess is that they thought he was speaking for people who really don't have a voice and that that was important but they weren't about to let him sink the ship by getting the nomination. I get it.

I agree with Mike Casey, this story doesn't make sense and really just sounds like staff/aide CYA big time. I do not buy Joe Trippi had a plan to ruin Edwards if he won.

"The next Supreme Court Justice if ...."?????

Now that really is stretching it, don't you think? The snake oil nature of his personality, the ambulance chasing fortune, and the carefully cultured "look" and "image" (replete with primping) and the umpteen million dollar house with umpteen bedrooms --- you think that's gonna fly as a nominee to the highest court? Nahhh....

I suppose he might have gotten some momentum going toward Attorney General if he'd even want that, since we know several shmucks have been put into that job in the past. But medical malpractice hasn't got a whole lot to do with constitutional law, if I recall my long-ago time in law school correctly.

Side note: the guy gave me the "willies" from the get-go. I noted the phoniness and crossed his name off my mental list in about a day and a half. I'm amazed he got as far as he did.

That is pretty fishy. It seems strange to join a presidential campaign for the sole purpose of bringing it down - like a double agent in enemy territory. What was their plan anyway?

And he could have been the next Supreme Court Justice if he had shown better personal judgment. What a stupid, stupid loss.

I think that's exactly right Justin, and also: this means he couldn't even convince his own staffers that he was the right guy for the job.

In other words, when your posse is secretly planning to vote you off the island, you may be lacking in "leadership qualities".
