Justin, which way you wanna have it? You've been relentlessly hammering the GOP for moving the wrong way and being in thrall to base wingnuts. Then when a member of party leadership calls the base on something substantive, you claim he ought not to have done so.

What gives? Absent such actions, how does the GOP move in the allegedly more reasonable direction you advocate?

@the Word

Yes, Steele was being honest, and it's good insight. But if you're leading the GOP that's just something you don't say. That's more along the lines of what you'd say if you were on The McLaughlin Group.

As far as religion goes, that's just our country. I don't think it's fair either, but an atheist can't be elected President right now, and you it's a third rail to question somebody's faith. I think that'll eventually change, but right now this is how it is.

I think you are off base in the comment on the Mormonism. The GOP base did have a problem with his being a Mormon. Steele was just being honest. He says some dumb things no doubt, but he was being honest there.

I might also ask why is it taken as completely acceptable that someone without religion is almost completely incapable of being elected and someone with belief is incapable of being judged on their beliefs no matter how questionable they are? Shouldn't there be a point at which unbelievable beliefs should call into questions someone's judgment or honesty?

He agreed the Hopkins doctors that went to the black sites for CIA were okay even though they weren't federal employees and on contracts. He got his job as Republican leader. Pelosi and Goss and the others got their jobs and promotions by agreeing torture was okay for the military. The difference is they didn't realize that it's only okay for the military, not CIA or contractors. They should all quit as stupid losers.
