Sounds like Ensign went public to defuse a blackmail attempt from Hampton, and Hampton is now trying to get a little revenge. Hampton trying to cash in or seek revenge, without noting that his primary problem here is a little closer to home? Heh. Sounds like all these people DESERVE each other.

Of course, if every Congresscritter who had an affair resigned, Congress would have perpetual trouble getting a quorum together. Not that Ensign shouldn’t have stepped down from his leadership post, as he did. His constituents will weigh in with their verdict next election on the rest.

Slimebags happen on both sides although Gingrich, Hyde, Larry Craig, Helen Chenoweth, Mark Foley Ensign, Livingston, Dr. Laura, Limbaugh, Packwood, Visser, Thurmond and the Republican party have tried to cram down America’s throats for years that they are the party of family values. They also routinely have been against gay rights while frequently being the ones who themselves are gay.

So Kranky, it isn’t the sex, it’s the rampant, blatant, self-serving hypocrisy. If you call for another person’s resignation for the EXACT SAME OFFENSE. You need to go. And that is why it is different.

Power corrupts, and power’s corrupting influence has the same hold on men and on women, on whites and on minorities, on democrats and on republicans, on gays and on staights, on blondes and brunettes, and so on.

This really should be so obvious to everyone that it’s not worth pointing out. But experience repeatedly demonstrates to me that partisans are always willing to claim that the other team’s identity groups are more prone to such moral weaknesses.

The opaqueness of partisans on this point never ceases to astonish me.

I don’t believe you can ignore the possibility that this type of behavior exists in both parties, or most likely in any organization where very powerful people preside. Would we be surprised if the same type of accusations came to light within the democratic party?

This speaks to a broader problem within the GOP. They need to do serious ethical housecleaning, getting rid of the slimeballs and the career politicians in favor of a new breed of statesmen and women. I hope that Fox shows some spine and at least gives this guy an interview.
