Obama’s Transparency Promises Have Been Repeatedly Broken

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Barack, Obama, Transparency

While the Obama administration has been the most transparent of any so far, he has still broken some pretty specific promises, much to the consternation of those who voted for him.
From New York Times:
“When there’s a bill that ends up on my desk as president, you the public will have five days to look online [...]

Iranian Leaders Admit Election Fraud. Still Don’t Care.

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Elections, Iran

This is pretty astonishing.
Apparently the number of votes exceeded the number of voters in over 50 cities, for a discrepancy of about 3 million votes.
But yeah…they don’t care:
The discrepancies, the most sweeping acknowledged so far by the authorities, could affect some three million ballots of what the government says was an 85 percent turnout [...]

Yes, The Revolution Will Be Twittered

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Iran, Technology

Between the 2008 election and the current situation in Iran, social technologies have changed politics in very real, very meaningful ways.
Now, with these immediate, uncontrolled communication channels available (Twitter, YouTube, Facebook), citizens finally have the ability to share what’s really going on without the media filter.
Iranian leaders didn’t anticipate this, but other repressive regimes [...]

Iranian Election Aftermath Roundup

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Iran

Lots has been going on and I haven’t had the time to share it all.
Basically what it boils down to is this. The Iranian government is finally starting to crack down for real and the people aren’t standing down. Meanwhile, Obama still hasn’t come out in favor of Mousavi, and that’s drawing criticism stateside from [...]

Another Moderate Dem Likes Healthcare Co-Op Idea

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Arkansas, Democrats, Health Care

The moment I heard Kent Conrad’s plan I knew it could pick up steam as a bipartisan solution…especially since it was designed to do just that.
Now another Blue Dog Dem is voicing support for the idea…
U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., says she prefers private insurance cooperatives to a government-run provider that would compete with the [...]

Obama Kills At Radio & TV Correspondents Dinner

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Barack, Comedy, Obama, Video

Funniest President ever?
You be the judge….

Personally, I think Reagan still knew how to deliver a line better than any other President I’ve seen. But he was an actor, so if we’re going with non-actors, Clinton and Obama are neck and neck.
One note though…while it’s fun to make light of the news of the day, Americans [...]

Gallup: Obama’s Support Among Independents At 53%

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Barack, Economy, Obama, Polls

Cause for alarm? If you track polls it might be because it has dipped to its lowest mark since he took office. And that means his overall rating has dipped to 58%.
Here are the breakouts…

My guess as to why this is happening? People are nervous about the economy and the deficits. And that last one [...]

‘Avenging Amanda Terkel’?

By The Pajama Pundit | Related entries in Media, Partisan Hacks

…or lowering yourself to Fox News’ level (which is saying something).
While I understand just what the folks at OpenLeft.com are doing, I think it’s downright lame.
When Bill O’Reilly sends out his goon squad to harass people with whom he disagrees, it ain’t right. [I've railed against it before] It’s also ain’t right when [...]

Will Bi-Partisan Team Save Healthcare Reform?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Democrats, Health Care, Republicans

The whispers around Washington is that healthcare reform is in trouble.
Even liberal blogger Ezra Klein is now scaling back his expectations and characterizing any progress as a good step forward…
It is one of the paradoxes of the legislative process that something that is substantively quite timid can also be quite bold. This version of [...]

Husband Of John Ensign’s Mistress Speaks Out

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Bad Decisions, Nevada, Republicans, Senate

You probably noticed that I didn’t write anything about John Ensign’s affair because it seemed like just another hypocrite doing what hypocrites do.
But when I read the following letter penned by one of Ensign’s former employees (as well as the husband of the woman Ensign pursued), I was moved enough to share it. You’ll find [...]
