C Lyne,
even bringing up that as some type of proof shows your lack of reasoning ability. Thank you for proving my point though.

Justin - I've noticed that as you've gotten more fed up with the republican side of things, the commenters on here have gotten more extreme. It's interesting because I think it matches the larger pattern of things happening in the country.

C Lyne:

Partial birth abortions are often performed in cases where the baby is decidedly not alive in the usual sense of that word. For example, where a baby's brain is damaged to such an extent that it would die in pain within days. Or when a baby will be born with major organs outside of its body. Or when the birth might kill both mother and child. Or when the baby's body is so deformed that it could not live outside of life-support -- ever.

Let's be clear: we are not talking about sick babies. Or unhealthy babies. We're talking about disastrous babies, catastrophic DNA failures that medical science cannot begin to address.

So-called "partial birth" abortions are .2 percent of abortions. No sane mother deliberately waits until her baby is ready to be born and then opts whimsically for such a procedure. Women do it because they have no practical alternative.

Inerestingly, it appears that nearly all of the birthers come from the South:

Only 47 percent of Southern respondents believe Obama was born in the USA. By contrast, 93 percent of Northeasterns said yes, he was born here, 90 percent of Midwesterners did and 87 percent of Westerners.

Wow.

Reason's Jesse Walker has a good assessment of the "birther" phenomenon. I think he has it more or less down, particularly with these two quotes:

The electorate is down on the GOP because it associates the party with a recession, a series of scandals, and an unpopular war, not because a few congressmen are playing footsy with a fringe theory.

and

Speaking as an Obama critic: Even if I believed the birthers were onto something, the possibility that the president is covering up his origins would rank approximately 435th on my list of complaints about his administration, just ahead of his reported fondness for Michael Bay movies.

Well if critical thinking is not a strong point for Republicans ... how do you explain supporting partial birth abortions? Not sure how this is rational thinking ... Liberals please take the floor ... My baby is half alive, lets kill it

I've been telling Republicans this for a long time: your fringe has become your mainstream.

Rational Republicans are under the now-laughable misconception that they are driving the bus and the nuts are passengers. No. The GOP is run by the crazies. The GOP is now officially the party of crazy people. It's the rational Republicans who are the fringe now.

God only knows why the rational Republican remnant still pay dues to the asylum.
