“This Week” Beats “Meet The Press”

Still think David Gregory was the right choice NBC?
It’s an ominous sign for David Gregory, who was called upon to take over NBC’s long dominant Sunday morning show following Tim Russert’s death from a heart attack last year. While it’s only one Sunday in August, “This Week” has been steadily gaining ground since the beginning of the year. The ABC show had 2.8 million viewers on Sunday, compared to 2.77 million for “Meet the Press,” Nielsen said. CBS’ “Face the Nation” with Bob Schieffer had 2.3 million viewers and “Fox News Sunday” with Chris Wallace had 920,000.
Some say Stephanopoulos’ strategy of taking the show on the road more often is helping with the ratings, and that very well may be true. But, again, I think it’s Gregory. He plays MTP too fast and loose and appears to be more of a pundit than a moderator. Stephanopoulos has that calm, steady demeanor, but still asks tough questions…ala the late, great Tim Russert.
In any event…paging Chuck Todd…

chuck todd—do I detect a man crush?

This was a outlier. It’ll be more competitive, but MTP will continue to kick TW ass. Todd could not handle the format. They’d chew him up and spit him out.

I don’t know who NBC will pick next for MTP, but David Gregory is clearly out of his depth and doesn’t really know how to ask a decent question. At least Stephanopoulos has depth of knowlege.

No surprise here. A mental midget, a corporate yes man, and the political instincts of a goat. A show like MTP needs an apolitical journalist, with great intellectual capacity and the attack instincts of Alexander the Great. Anyone else just belittles the memory of all those great moderators who came before.

At some point, Bob Schieffer will retire; when he goes, will Chuck Todd get a call from CBS?
