Barney Frank Fights Back

By The Pajama Pundit | Related entries in Barack, Democrats, Health Care, Obama, Video

I’m not a huge fan of Congressman Frank. However, I will say that in this video he is exhibiting the best retort to a nutter that I’ve seen. Anyone who compares the President of the United States (any POTUS) to Adolf effing Hitler deserves to be verbally abused in this manner. Period.

If you don’t like the health care reform bill that is being proposed, fine. Argue your stance without invoking the mass genocide that took place in the 1940s. By using the Nazis as comparison for your political debate, you are cheapening the deaths six million Jews. Read Jon Meacham.

For the record, I’m not all-in for HR3200. I have some serious reservations about government health care (and other programs for that matter). However, I see absolutely no parallels to Nazi Germany (or Stalinist Russia, or any other scary ‘socialist’ or ‘fascist’ simile) and to make such a gross comparison is being uninformed and irresponsible.

Not a fan of Frank either, but wow that was a zing and a half. Bravo. About time a pro-reformer decided it was time to take off the gloves and call this BS exactly what it is. There are very real criticisms of the bill and we should be discussing those instead of the fake “issues”.

  2. The Pajama Pundit Says:

    My thoughts exactly Jon!

  3. Chris Says:

Just watched the video on cnn, and wow. Finally. These people need to be called out for trolls, and then ignored. just like on the internet.

  4. Jimmy the Dhimmi Says:

I love how this made the front page of the Globe, or the ABC network news broadcast with Charlie Gibson. All of a sudden, when one protester makes a placard with a picture of our President compared to Hitler, it becomes front-page news.

If the mainstream media had kept this standard of reporting over the last 8 years, they wouldn’t have had time to report on any other stories.

It is as if, in general, people have lower expectations for leftists, and hold conservatives to higher standards of decency.

  5. Nick Benjamin Says:

If the mainstream media kept the same standard of reporting for both sides we wouldn’t be talking about these protesters at all. Anti-war activists were as organized and quite a bit more sane the teabaggers, but they were lucky be mentioned once a day on cable news. They were just liberals so no media folks took them seriously.

No shit the media holds people it takes seriously to a higher standard.

  6. Aaron Says:

Jimmy I think you missed the point. The story isn’t the lady and her sign, the story is Barny Frank. The news shows have plenty of footage of crazy protesters, but a senator fighting back? Well that’s news.

  7. Jim S Says:

One protester with one of those placards? I think they’ve been at most of the meetings where anti-Obama loons have come out. I know that I’ve seen that exact same one several times in different parts of the country.

  8. Chris Says:

Jimmy, i’ve seen those signs at every coverage they’ve had on the news of these things.

  9. Lindalou P Says:

I disagree with Barney on this one. Talking to the woman was more like talking to a cantaloupe. At least a dining room table has legs to stand on. I hope more Senators get a clue from him. Good job Barney.

  10. Jimmy the Dhimmi Says:

Ok, sorry. There were several protesters.

Bush = Hitler signs? Several thousand – in a single protest rally on many occasions.

Anti-war activists were as organized and quite a bit more sane the teabaggers

I suggest you click on the link I just provided and reconsider this statement.

They were just liberals so no media folks took them seriously.

They were just liberals who were a complete disgrace, which is why the left-leaning mainstream press continually obfuscated and under-reported the nonsense. They didn’t wan’t the progressive movement and opposition to Bush to be portrayed honestly for the embarrassment that they were.

  11. rachel Says:

How dare Congressman Frank abuse innocent tables like that? At least tables have legs to stand on.

  12. Q.HORSES Says:

HAS EVERYONE FORGOT ABOUT WHAT BARNEY FRANKS HAS DONE TO THIS COUNTRY!!!! FANNEY MAE ETC…. SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM ABOUT… HOW CAN YOU BELEIVE ANYTHING THIS GUY SAYS.. AND IT DOES FEEL LIKE A HITTLER MOVIE, THIS GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO TAKE OUR RIGHTS TO ALOT THINGS… LIKE THE GUN BILL THEY ARE PUTTING UNDER THE IRS BILL… LOOK UNDER… BILL-HR45

  13. Trescml Says:

There is a general axiom that the first person to bring up Hitler in an argument has lost the argument.

Most of the left’s factual claims about bush were true. He invaded a country that had no WMD claiming it did have WMD. He ignored the Israeli-Palestinian crises because it was politically inconvenient for him to disagree with the Israelis. His confrontational tactics with north Korea and Iran did not work. The military says Git-Mo did not work, says torture does not work, and says both policies resulted in American deaths by creating more terrorists. He did not catch Bin Laden. His war against the Taliban was initially successful, but his silly obsession with attacking distracted him so much that the Talinban were able to come back in Afghanistan and are currently giving the Pakistanis trouble.

Liberals had policies that would have worked. For example, bnot invading Iraq and not torturing people.

The teabaggers have a complaint that is fact-based when they talk about taxes. Unfortunately for them they have no credible alternative because the economy tanked. To balance the budget without increasing taxes they’d have to cut programs people need, like food stamps and unemployment benefits, which would result in things like starvation.

Their death panels BS, government take-over of health care fantasy, etc, are simply nonsense.

It’s one thing to be a total jackass to elected officials when you can claim to be right, and have credible alternative policies. But when you are making things up, and demanding mutually contradictory policies such as a balanced budget, with tax cuts, during a major recession…

They were just liberals who were a complete disgrace, which is why the left-leaning mainstream press continually obfuscated and under-reported the nonsense. They didn’t wan’t the progressive movement and opposition to Bush to be portrayed honestly for the embarrassment that they were.

So by not reporting liberals exist, the MSM was participating in a liberal plot?

I’m gonna have to disagree with you on that one.

  15. Agnostick Says:

In all fairness… the signs showing our president with a Hitler-style toothbrush mustache were funded and printed by Lyndon LaRouche… not by conservatives.

Justin, if you’ve not done a blog entry on that particular media faux pas, I think it’s worthy of one. I’m just sayin’…

Q, I fear that your use of the caps lock key doesn’t lend any additional weight to your views.

  17. kranky kritter Says:

    I support Frank’s responses wholeheartedly.

I’ve got no sympathy for the media bias whines in this instance. Not given Fox News ratings. Nor given my recollection that Cindy Sheehan had no trouble getting on TV. Fresh air, sunshine, and bleach needs to be applied to the fetid distortions of folks like this woman chronicled above.

Whether they are lefty or righty. As folks familiar with me know, I am always quick to point out that both the left and the right have an amply supply of angry misinformed simple-minded loons. So I’m happy to acknowledge that the left has folks just as loony as this righty loon. Which doesn’t, you know, function to cast this woman or her ilk in any kind of favorable light, nor excuse her behavior.

Right Jimmi? Because if your best arguments here are 1) that this isn’t newsworthy and 2)that the left is just as bad, then you’re just clutching at straws.

George Bush faced angry and unreasonable criticism from leftie loons all the time. And he got re-elected anyway. His Iraq policy endured. I hope the same for Obama, that he makes significant headway on healthcare reform. And gets re-elected anyway.

  18. Jimmy the Dhimmi Says:

Most of the left’s factual claims about bush were true.

Everybody’s factual claims about anything are true.

  19. Agnostick Says:

Here’s a real crackpot at work… Barb thinks that elected officials owe their constituents every single detail about their personal lives, including how much they pay for insurance.
