Obama’s Health Care Plan: Will Labor Go Independent?

By Nancy Hanks | Related entries in Health Care, Independence Party of New York, Independents, News, Obama

SEIU prez Andrew Stern is threatening to “go independent” on local races to oppose Dems who oppose Prez Obama’s healthcare reform bill. One enabling factor in New York is fusion voting, which has empowered third parties like the New York Independence Party, Conservative Party and Working Families Party. Meanwhile, former Dem La Plata County Colorado Commissioner Joelle Riddle didn’t threaten — she went independent for real.

    COLORADO

  • Caucuses picking delegates today (by Garrett Andrews, Durango Herald) And though the herd of Democrats running to replace Joelle Riddle as La Plata County’s District 1 Commissioner won’t be thinned today, the party might get a better idea of how the candidates will fare at the County Assembly, Walter said. Riddle – who cut ties with the Democratic Party in August 2009 and is suing to have her name listed as an Independent on the November ballot – is slated to appear as a write-in in November.

    NEW YORK

  • Fusion Voting in New York, the Working Families Party & Close Elections (by: DavidNYC, Swing State Project) There are fewer small parties today than in the past, and only three of them matter: the Conservative Party, the Independence Party, and the Working Families Party.
  • Long’s Dilemma (BY ELIZABETH BENJAMIN, Daily News/Daily Politics) The Working Families Party, usually allied with the Democrats, still has the US attorney’s probe hanging over its head. Ditto for the state Independence Party, which endorsed Eliot Spitzer for governor in 2006 after its founder and patron, Tom Golisano, decided against a fourth statewide wide.

Barack Obama’s book, “The Audacity of Hope,” provides a appealing title. It has a taste of bravery mixed confidently. You’ll find nothing Pollyanna concerning this. I won’t support every little thing he says, but he’s our president, as well as for me, he inspires belief. That may do more for just a region than any amount of backroom deals. Hope gives us energy, and energy sustains us through trying times. Boy, we’ve had them. I’m from West Texas, and I did not vote for Bush. When McCain ran against Obama, I was a citizen of Arizona, but I gave audacious hope a chance. The fight for progress and laying the foundations of prosperity isn’t over. I’ve come across the quips of those who don’t think Obama is capable of doing it. But step back a moment. Would anyone have all of us fail only to tarnish the star of an incumbent for whom they did not vote? Keeping our priorities straight, let’s work together with this president and build our future.

The US Gov. is killin’ me. Can’t everyone notice that this bill will raise taxes for everyone and even invent brand new ones for all of us?

Obama qualifications to reform health care:

“Influential” In Univ Chicago Med Ctr hiring practices

      No birth certificate

      Can not stop smoking

      Difficulty telling the truth.

      Narcissistic personality disorder.

It should be pointed out that Obama didn’t write any of this plan himself. Congress wrote it, based largely on ideas that were conservative before the Dems had the audacity to agree with them. Obama’s contribution has largely been to listen to his wonks on precisely which sections should be included. Thus we have both the excise tax (which weakens the Employer Tax Exclusion Conservatives claim to hate), and the individual mandate (a Heritage Foundation idea) stayed in the bill.

I don’t really know what the University of Chicago has to do with anything, but I can tell that by Hawaiian law there is only one birth certificate. And by Hawaiian law it is illegal for anyone but the State of Hawaii to possess that birth certificate. Everyone except the state of Hawaii has to settle for a Certification of Live Birth, which Obama has provided.

As for the rest I respectfully submit that there are no politicians, anywhere, who do not have difficulty with the truth and are not self-absorbed assholes. And that very few people do not have trouble quitting smoking.

Very nice follow up. I Igor must admit, I agree completely with your third paragraph

University of Chicago Med Ctr is where Mrs Obama got a $250,000 plus a year job that was not even filled when she left. Since jobs are Mr. Obama’s number one priority(on them like a laser beam as he has said), we should all be in fine shape when he creates us these kinds of jobs!
