If You Like Or Respect Rush Limbaugh…Watch This

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Media, Partisan Hacks, Partisan Nonsense, Video

Usually I try to avoid stuff like this, but the following video was just too crazy. I mean…how does this guy have listeners? How is he so powerful? More importantly, why can’t GOPers distance themselves from or criticize him without having to apologize a couple days later?

Answer: morons.

Listen, most of you know I don’t usually get into name calling on this blog, but if you know somebody who likes or respects Rush Limbaugh after this…it’s safe to say that they’re a moron, right? If not…what’s wrong with them? Or what’s “right” with them?

Let me know…

They will say what they always say….he was making a joke, you are being too politically correct, and then a moron or two will dig up every stupid thing a leftwing talking head ever said and try to paint it as equivalent and then ignore the fact that they are being critical of someone on the left while defending someone on the left….

    sigh….

  3. gerryf Says:

    ooops…defending someone on the right….sigh….

Is it the mimicking of chinese? Ugly and indefensible. What is he? 8?

If you really do try to avoid stuff like this, you don’t do a particularly good job, though. I bet if we kept a scoreboard of posts that singled out particular political figures for approbation, Sara Palin and Rush Limbaugh would top it. It’s not every day fodder, but it’s “go-to-the-well” stuff.

That said, LImbaugh deserves every bit of approbation he gets for this. Not that it will matter. Limbaugh is getting on, and I think he’s in mental decline. I think it would be a worthwhile risk for some minor conservative aspirant to take Limbaugh on narrowly for this behavior.

KK: Seriously! This is the kind of crap we did in middle school.

I think Justin makes a good point though. How does anyone look to this guy for moral and policy guidance?

    Tilly? What say you?

Look I’ve been listening to Limbaugh off and on for years. This is part of his MO. Sometimes he’ll air something particularly provocative or offensive to highlight liberal hypocrisy, as was the case in “Barack the Magic Negro.” Other times, he’ll do it simply to piss off the left, ruffle their feathers a bit, and get them talking about him for the next week. And every time, they take the bait, hook, line, and sinker. He really can play them like a fiddle.

You have to understand that at the end of the day, this guy is an entertainer first, and a populist conservative second. He’s no William Buckley. So do I look to him for serious political thought? Not so much, but I do find him entertaining. He’s there to get listeners and charge advertisers. And I suspect a large block of his listeners are people who admire the fact that he shamelessly thumbs his nose at the conventional Beltway PC standards of conduct. They’re not part of the elite, and neither is he. They live vicariously through him.

As to this specific bit, do I find it “disgusting” or “outrageous?” Not really, to be honest. Limbaugh is poking fun at the leader of an authoritarian regime, and the perpetrator of many human rights abuses.

You know what I find more outrageous? The fact that the recipient of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize is throwing a lavish dinner for the man who is imprisoning the recipient of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize. Thanks to Ann Althouse for pointing out the gross irony in this.

Tilly: I don’t find it particularly disgusting or outrageous either. Just incredibly childish – KK might have a point about the mental decline.

Let’s really be honest though, he wasn’t poking fun at Hu, he was mocking the Chinese language and, consequently, everyone who speaks it – many of whom are the innocent victims of human rights abuses.

Also, I have trouble believing you really find the “lavish dinner” concept outrageous. You’re smart enough to understand the politics and nuance of foreign policy (especially with China) and, frankly, just smarmy enough to propagate it as a right-wing meme.

This doesn’t quite jibe with the fact that Justin mentioned that any criticism of Rush by a Republican is apologized for very quickly.

Also, Rush Limbaugh not a part of the elite? Again, you’ve clearly demonstrated that you’re smart enough to know better than that.

I love how a post on Limbaugh becomes an attack on Obama.

I agree with gerryf….someone could have written this script before any comments began.

  9. michael mcEachran Says:

If Dems are the mommy party and Repubs are the daddy party, then Limbaugh is the impetuous 10 year old who tell dirty jokes in the shed. Part of the fun is when Mommy gets mad and Daddy chuckles under his breath. What makes it disturbing is that in this case the Daddy party has to answer to the brat. You do need to put the chidren in their place once and while.

    @Tilly who said

I think this should come as no surprise.

  11. Jim S Says:

Limbaugh does not say offensive things to highlight liberal hypocrisy. He says offensive things for one of two reasons. Sometimes it’s what he believes. Sometimes he knows it’s what his audience believes.

Well that’s not completely divorced from political reality. lol

I actually agree with the motives you attribute to Limbaugh and I tend to agree that he’s mostly winding up liberals. But to finish on that stunningly naive admission…you’ve got to know when to make your point and get out, tilly.

What offends you exactly? The fact of the dinner or its ostensible lavishness? And what, no explicit repudiation of Obama’s Nobel, or is that implied? lol

Childish, to be sure. But ANOTHER post fed from Media Matters, Justin?
