30% Want A Third Party

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party

This is actually good news for Obama because his message of “we need a culture change in Washington” seems to be in the collective zeitgeist right now.
From WSJ:
In new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, 46% plurality calls for “major reforms and a brand new and different approach” in government. “The mood is for more than [...]

Ron Paul’s Loss Could Be Mike Bloomberg’s Gain

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Bloomberg

First, why Ron Paul’s loss? Because if he doesn’t go 3rd party, somebody will. A perfect storm for a 3rd party candidate is on the radar and all signs point to it turning into a category 5. Especially if the nominees are Giuliani (or Romney) and Clinton.
So how could Bloomberg benefit?
Well, since Paul is [...]

3 Reasons Why Ron Paul Should Go 3rd Party

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Ron Paul

I like Ron Paul. I think he’s consistent, honest and has a very “American” message. When I talk about him here I rarely miss an opportunity to share my opinion about his 3rd party viability. Needless to say, I think it’s pretty damn good.
However, many of his supporters loathe that I share this view so [...]

Will Ron Paul Raise Most Money In Q4?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Money, Ron Paul

He’s on track to vault over his $12 million goal, and that could seriously outpace all of his GOP rivals, including the deep-pocketed Romney.
Add to this the fact that the Ron Paul Blimp idea apparently reached its $350K goal and the craft is set to launch on Dec. 10th for a month long tour [...]

The Most Important Question Ron Paul Supporters Have To Ask Themselves

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Ron Paul

Okay Paulites, I know you want to win the GOP nomination and reshape the Republican party. And trust me, I hope that happens. But with Huckabee pulling into the lead in Iowa, and so many other candidates fragmenting the field in early primary states, the likelihood of Paul winning is getting less and less with [...]

Ron Paul & Huckabee Keep Gaining

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Huckabee, Ron Paul

Specifically, if Huckabee somehow pulls off a win in Iowa, it might actually steamroll him towards victory in a lot of other states. Same with Ron Paul, although I think Iowa is out for him. His supporters should focus on pulling off an upset in New Hampshire.
Because then take South Carolina. The latest Rasmussen poll [...]

Bloomberg Keeps Flirting

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Bloomberg

He’s apparently getting a bunch of foreign policy wonks to bring him up to speed.
From Huffington Post:
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been receiving foreign policy briefing sessions on a wide variety of topics, providing the strongest indication yet that he is considering a run for the White House, the Huffington Post has learned.
The [...]

Ron Paul Betting On New Hampshire, Nevada?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Ron Paul

Odds are that Iowa will go to Romney and Huckabee. Paul could pull off a 3rd place finish there, but even that is looking increasingly unlikely because Thompson and Giuliani will most likely grab the 3 and 4 spots. That puts Paul in 5th, the same place he was at in the straw poll.
That brings [...]

Lou Dobbs On Prez Race

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party

He recently said the following…
“One year from now, we will have elected a new president. As eager as I am for that reality, I can’t imagine any one of the current candidates for their party’s nomination being chosen by the American people to lead this nation for the next four years. I believe the person [...]

Ron Paul Polling At 8% Nationally As 3rd Party Nominee

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Libertarian, Polls, Ron Paul

This is just one poll, but it’s telling that this early on he’d pull so much national support.
From Rasmuseen:
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found Hillary Clinton leading Rudy Giuliani by three percentage points in a four-way race that includes Ron Paul running as a Libertarian candidate and Ralph Nader representing the Green [...]

Why Ron Paul matters as a Republican.

By mw | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Libertarian, Republicans, Ron Paul

If the Republicans alienate the libertarian swing vote by continuing to make bonehead moves like banning Paul in Idaho - they lose the White House. If Republicans find a way to retain most of that vote regardless of whether Paul wins the nomination - the Republicans keep the White House. The way to retain that vote is for the Republicans to move in a libertarian direction and find their inner “Ron Paul”. This is the meaning of Ron Paul - Republican.

Ron Paul Says He Won’t Go 3rd Party

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Ron Paul

Yep, if he doesn’t win the highly skewed GOP nomination, he’s not going to keep going.
That’s a shame:
DURHAM, N.H. — Texas Congressman Ron Paul said he is “not interested” in a third party run for president if he is unable to win the Republican presidential nomination next year.
“I have no intention of doing that,” Paul [...]

You Can’t Ignore Ron Paul

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Money, Ron Paul

Money talks people. Just remember that. Without his November 5th money nuke, he wouldn’t be getting this type of traction in the media. Now reporters are focusing on his supporters’ dissatisfaction with not being involved in debates or polls, etc.
For example, take the GOP’s new rule that debate candidates must have 5% or above in [...]

Ron Paul Has $4.3 Million Day

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Money, Ron Paul

Wow.
That’s extremely impressive. I think the money bomb exceeded pretty much all expectations.
From Wired:
Supporters of Republican presidential contender Ron Paul rallied Monday and injected almost $4 million into his campaign in just 24 hours, according to campaign fundraising director Jonathan Bydlak.
The campaign reported late Monday that it had received 35,000 donations. The amount looks [...]

The Outsourced Brain

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Technology

David Brooks has an awesome editorial on the growing reliance on technology to remember for us, and after the quote below, I’ll have some thoughts about what that means to us as citizens and voters.

GOP Wants Bloomberg To Run

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Bloomberg

Why?
Well, they say it will siphon votes from Dems. And while I think they’re right…umm, what about all of the fiscal conservatives? Does the GOP really think they can hang onto those voters with this current crop of candidates?
From Washington Times:
Some Republican activists hope New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will make a third-party [...]

Can Ron Paul Raise $12 Million In Q4?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Money, Ron Paul

That’s the goal his campaign has set, but he’s only raised $2.3 million so far. The goal for the end of October is $4 million, but it’s up in the air whether he can raise $1.7 million in just a little over 2 days, especially since he’s only raised the 2.3 in the last 29. [...]

So Ron Paul Won’t Make A 3rd Party Run, Eh?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Ron Paul

I found this over at Political Insider…

Ron Paul Is Seriously Flawed As A Candidate
