So then, question….why do you think this birth certificate nonsense has been able to pick up steam? Is it because some people simply can’t accept the fact that a guy with the name Barack Hussein Obama is their president? Because I’m genuinely puzzled.

And yes, I know it’s a joke and I actually found parts of it funny, but do they honestly think things like this will be effective?

Let me put it another way…do libertarians not realize that our system, which doesn’t cover 40M+ people and is bankrupting our country, needs serious reform?

And I’m talking real reform, not the health savings account, tax deduction and deregulation ideas they’ve floated the last decade. Because those measures would still leave out those who can’t afford health care and have preexisting conditions.

I’m just saying, there’s a reason why these folks find themselves on the political fringe most of the time.

I’ve said it before that I think all of these moves are a big mistake, but that’s what happens when you overpromise and underdeliver. You end up looking like you’ve broken promises…which you have.

*sigh*

Personally, I think Reagan still knew how to deliver a line better than any other President I’ve seen. But he was an actor, so if we’re going with non-actors, Clinton and Obama are neck and neck.

One note though…while it’s fun to make light of the news of the day, Americans are still falling on hard times and events like these make any President seem out of touch. Obama would do well to leave the media blitz to a minimum for a while.

That very last part about Stewart’s mother…wow. I think we all know somebody like that and it’s why we’re so furious when we consider how jokers like Cramer were asleep at the wheel at best or, at worst, were complicit in all of this.

As I predicted, that surprisingly frank but remarkably dumb interview Cramer gave in 2006 (where he basically admitted that the whole market was a big scam) was a centerpiece of Stewart’s assault. And Stewart could have shown A LOT more of that interview too, but he hit the high points and made Mr. Mad Money look like an absolute fool. Because Cramer would try to explain that he was fighting against a practice like “fomenting”, but then Stewart would play another clip where he said he recommended it because the SEC doesn’t know how to stop it. And then Cramer would sit there with a smile/grimace on his face, shrug his shoulders and wait for Stewart to begin talking again.

It was pitiful.

Deliciously so.

But yes, Stewart didn’t let Cramer off the hook. He kept pounding him with his own BS and backing him into a corner until there really wasn’t anything left for Cramer to do expect say that he’ll try not acting like a maniac on his show and actually tell people how the market really works. And after the schlacking Cramer received last night it’s hard to imagine him actually going back to his “Mad Money” ways without inflicting some serious psychic damage on himself. Still, I’m not holding my breath.

To his credit, Cramer did actually go on the show and take his lumps. Good for him. It’s more than you can say for Rick Santelli. But is anybody going to trust what Cramer says anymore? Is his show at CNBC done?

Remember, Stewart went on Crossfire, ripped everybody a new one and 6 months later it was cancelled.

I’m just saying…

One of my favorite comedians is on his way overseas to entertain our brave men and women and he’s posting a lot of pictures and commentary detailing the whole thing.

Here’s the first entry…

Last December (2008) I went to Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan as part of the Seargent Major Tour for the USO. I did shows in Army bases all over the Middle East. I had never done anything like it before and it left me with a lasting impression. I took lots of pictures and wrote several emails back to my family throughout the trip, mostly to let them know that I was okay, but they were very detailed. I have intended since then to post these stories and pictures on my site but I am a lazy idiot.

Today I feel four percent less lazy and stupid than usual, so I am going to try to start posting these stories. What I intend to do is post an entry each day as if I was there doing those things now. The reason for this is that it means I have to do less work to edit the emails that I sent my mom and sisters. I don’t have to change all the present tense stuff to past tense.

So this will start tomorrow. But let me just add the caveat that… I might not do it. I have a lot of energy right now and I’m all excited about this but tomorrow I might just lay in a pool of my own vomit instead.

And so it begins…
