Schwarzenegger Wants Debate On Marijuana Decriminalization

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in California, Debates, Drugs

This came as a bit of a shock to me, but Arnold is definitely one of the most moderate Republicans I’ve ever seen and is willing to take chances giving his unique position as a Republican Governor of a solidly blue state. Also, let’s not forget that the state voted to okay medical marijuana back [...]

Hillary Appointment Brings Obama Back To The Future

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Debates, Hillary, History, Video

I posted about this around the time we heard whispers about Hillary becoming Secretary of State, but I can’t help but post it again…

Is it me, or was this one of those moments during the campaign where the mood and momentum started to shift in Obama’s favor? Because right after this Obama won Iowa and [...]

Facial Coding Of The 3rd Presidential Debate

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Debates, McCain

I was just sent the following by Dan Hill of Sensory Logic. He’s the facial coding expert you see making the rounds on the talk shows, etc., and he did a breakdown of the VP debate for us.
In any event, see if the following jives with your recollection of the events…

McCain clearly won the first [...]

No contest.

Still, you’ll notice that it’s not like many of them are voting for Obama.
And so it goes…

Chris Matthews Talks Debate

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Debates, McCain, Video

I COMPLETELY agree with Matthews here about the Roe. v. Wade issue, and I have no idea why McCain brought this up. He already has his base. But then again, women were fleeing him anyway so why stop the bleeding now?
Take a look…

Lots of weird choices by McCain tonight. No wonder he lost so decidedly.
Moving [...]

McCain Did Better But Just Not Good Enough

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Debates, McCain

So, who said Barack Obama can’t debate well? And weren’t these debates supposed to be John McCain’s moments to shine?
I’d like to give this debate to McCain. He was at his strongest (although others disagree). And Obama was almost too laidback, too sure of his own staggering intellect and ability to reason his way out [...]

CBS Post Debate Snap Poll: Obama 53%, McCain 22%

This is the biggest margin yet in ANY of CBS’ post debate snap polling by more than DOUBLE!
First Debate: Obama 39%, McCain 24%
Second Debate: Obama 39%, McCain 27%
As I said, Obama walked away with it. McCain’s temper hurt him badly tonight.
Get ready for a landslide.

McCain Struck Speechless By The Facts

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Debates, Health Care, McCain, Video

Wow…this is pretty astonishing. It’s like McCain hears it and wants into the Obama healthcare plan.

Will this be the clip of the night?
“ZERO?!”
UPDATE:
Ben Smith agrees.
Marc Ambinder embeds too.

McCain’s Debate Performance

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Debates, McCain

Earlier this evening, I posted what I wanted to hear John McCain discuss tonight. Now that the debate is over, I wanted to comment on how well he addressed my concerns. For those of you who want my full debate reaction, it’s forthcoming.
McCain’s economic plan: I wanted specifics. I got a reiteration of the $300 [...]

Obama Won Hands Down

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Debates, McCain

In the first two debates I basically called them a tie.
Actually, the first debate I thought was a tie, so it went to Obama. The second one I thought Obama was much stronger at the town hall debate, but since I hate the whole “lowered expectations” game, I thought McCain lost more than Obama won.
Well [...]

Watch it…

And then talk about it below.
I suggest opening up two tabs with this post in both so you can refresh one while watching/listening in another.
One interesting note…the playoffs are on tonight so it may really cut down on people watching the whole debate. A bet a lot of people are switching around and that’ll [...]

I considered posting this in the live blog, but I think this note is worth its own post simply simply to prevent some folks from missing the debate.

What I Want to Hear From McCain

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Debates, Economy, Health Care, McCain

In a few hours, John McCain will have his last, best hope to win a high number of undecideds all at once. After this, he’ll have to pick them off one-by-one, and the numbers don’t suggest he has the time left to make that a successful strategy. As someone who is frustratingly undecided, here’s what [...]

McCain Will Talk About Ayers At Debate

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Ayers, Barack, Debates, McCain

Uh oh…here we go.
McCain is set to hammer the last nail into his presidential coffin tomorrow.
From CNN:
The comments, during an interview with St. Louis radio station KMOX, come after Obama and Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden were sharply critical of McCain for targeting the Illinois senator over Ayers at campaign rallies, but not when the [...]
