Edwards Set To Endorse?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, Edwards

TPM has the scoop…
An Edwards aide confirms to me that John Edwards met privately with Hillary on Thursday to discuss the possibility of making an endorsement, and will meet with Obama tomorrow, as first reported by Mark Halperin.
The Edwards aide gave me a bunch more detail, including this: “There’s a greater than 50% chance he [...]

John Edwards Quitting Race Today

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, Edwards

Frankly, I’m a bit shocked. I thought for sure he’d stick around to try and be kingmaker, but stranger things have happened and since John didn’t come in 2nd in South Carolina, one can only imagine how demoralized his campaign has become.
From AP:
DENVER (AP) - Democrat John Edwards is exiting the presidential race Wednesday, ending [...]

Clinton won the support of 49 percent of those polled by telephone by Opinion Research Corp. Jan. 23-27, a period that covered several days in advance of the South Carolina Democratic primary and one day afterward.
Obama came in second place, with 32 percent to John Edwards’ 14 percent.
The poll surveyed [...]

Edwards To Finish 3rd

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Edwards, South Carolina

Bad news for the son of South Carolina, but will he stay in it for the long haul so he can possibly become kingmaker at the convention?
So what happened tonight? Well, I think when the numbers get broken down even further they’ll reveal that a lot of people who were considering voting for Edwards switched [...]

Edwards For Attorney General?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Edwards, Hillary, Law

Novak floats a theory that Obama is reaching out to Edwards, and I suppose if there’s a job John IS qualified for in an Obama presidency, it’s in AG’s office..
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Illinois Democrats close to Sen. Barack Obama are quietly passing the word that John Edwards will be named attorney general in an Obama [...]

Clintons Try To Gain Michigan And Florida Delegates?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Billary, Democrats, Edwards, Florida, Hillary, Michigan

So the DNC yanked the delegates from these states because they moved their primaries up and now the Clintons are trying to get those delegates to count again?
First, their statement…
I hear all the time from people in Florida and Michigan that they want their voices heard in selecting the Democratic nominee.
I believe our nominee will [...]

I Ask John Edwards about Young Voters

By John Tomlin | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, Edwards, Video

Hey y’all (I’ve been in the south too long). In this video, I ask John Edwards about young voters. He definitely seemed a bit tired and grumpy when I met him, but he did take the time to answer the question.

Thoughts?

Could Edwards Finish 2nd In South Carolina?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, Edwards, Hillary, Polls, South Carolina

Zogby shows him getting closer and closer to Hillary over the past few days, with Obama leading by a pretty solid 13%.
From Zogby…
Clinton won 25% support, up one point from the day before but now just four points ahead of former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, who continued to increase support and now sits at [...]

Edwards’ (Seriously Flawed) Electability Argument

By 2008Central.net | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Bloomberg, Democrats, Edwards, Elections, McCain, News

The Edwards campaign latest justification for remaining in the race is that John Edwards is the ONLY electable Democratic candidate (as opposed to a similar but very different argument that Edwards is more electable than the other candidates). The campaign started making this argument after Iowa and has expanded on it ever since. Recently, [...]

Hillary Conceding South Carolina?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Edwards, Hillary, South Carolina

With Obama so far ahead in the polls in the Palmetto State, this unspoken move makes sense. The question now is: should Barack leave South Carolina now and start criss-crossing the country before Super Tuesday?
From Wash Post:
Clinton has been focused on California, New York, New Jersey and Arkansas since her defeat in the Iowa caucuses [...]

Fact Checking The South Carolina Debate

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Debates, Democrats, Edwards, Hillary, South Carolina

Looks like all the candidates played fast and loose with the facts, and FactCheck.org is on top of it…
Clinton falsely accused Obama of saying he “really liked the ideas of the Republicans” including private Social Security accounts and deficit spending. Not true. The entire 49-minute interview to which she refers contains no endorsement of private [...]

Hillary And Barack At Tonight’s Debate

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Debates, Democrats, Edwards, Hillary, Video

This clip is the highlight, or lowlight, from tonight’s debate.

Quote of the night? When Hillary said she didn’t criticize his comment about Ronald Reagan, Barack countered that her husband had. Hill then said she was at the debate, not Bill. That gave Barack the opportunity to land this gem, “Well, I can’t tell who I’m [...]

Hillary Projected To Win Nevada

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Edwards, Hillary, Nevada

Another close one, and Hillary looks like she’s going to able to pull it out with a strong 51% to Obama’s 45%. Edwards pulls in an embarrassing 4%.
Here’s how the vote broke down across demographics:
According to CBS News entrance polls, the economy was the issue most on the minds of Democratic caucus-goers today, ahead of [...]

Who Has More Experience?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Edwards, Hillary

Slate picks up on the fact that none of the candidates on the Democrat’s side can credibly make that argument…especially Hillary…

Zogby: Obama Pulling Further Away

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Edwards, Hillary, New Hampshire, Polls, Richardson

He’s now at 42%
Hillary and Kucinich stayed steady at 29% and 2% respectively, while Edwards is now at 17%, down from 19%. This basically spells doom for him I think. Richardson has also lost a point, going from 5% to 6%, so I don’t know if he’s really going to want to stick around [...]
