Meet The Press: Battleground States

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, McCain, Video

Tom Brokaw, Chuck Todd and the gang talk about NBC’s shifting electoral map and the new blue states that Obama’s campaign could create in this cycle.

Again, no good news here for McCain.
What will he do?
Or, more importantly, what can he do?
BTW, Todd reveals a very interesting insight into how NBC determines their electoral projections. It’s [...]

O’Reilly’s Hilarious Electoral Map

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, McCain, Polls

I literally took this screen capture two minutes ago.
First, to have North Carolina as solidly Republican is a fantasy. It’s certainly a toss up at this point, and is actually leaning a little towards Obama right now.
Second, O’Reilly still thinks Iowa, Oregon, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota and Pennsylvania are in the toss up columns? I don’t [...]

NBC’s Electoral Map Points To Obama Win

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, McCain, Polls, Video

Yesterday, I talked about how the map is predicting an electoral disaster for McCain.
Chuck Todd talks about how NBC’s very conservative map now predicts 286 electoral votes for Obama…

Now do know that Obama only needs Colorado on NBC’s map to win, but they now agree that both Colorado and Virginia are trending towards the Dems.
Meanwhile, [...]

Electoral Armageddon Awaits McCain

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, McCain, Polls

With the flood of new polls out in the past couple days showing Obama ahead everywhere…the electoral maps are looking the absolute worst they have ever been for McCain.
Seriously, take a look…
Electoral-Vote.com has Obama capturing 375 to McCain’s anemic 157. This is the highest and lowest totals they’ve had for each candidate since they started [...]

Chuck Todd: Electoral Map Getting Worse For McCain

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, McCain, Polls

Yes, “anything” can happen, but will it?
I honestly don’t think so. Obama is gaining momentum after that last debate, and with Palin’s embarrassing VP answer already catching fire throughout the mediasphere, the McCain camp will keep hemorrhaging swing votes.
Chuck Todd has more…

No ground game in Florida? How can the Republicans have planned so poorly?
Amazing…

Electoral Map Becoming Impossible For McCain

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, McCain, Polls

I created this map over at Real Clear Politics, and I think what it shows are the states that will go for McCain, the states that will go for Obama and the states that are true toss-ups.
My measure of this was if a state had aggregate polling that was +5% in a candidate’s favor, [...]

Arizona and Tennessee leaning Obama?
Louisiana, Georgia and South Carolina now toss ups?
Take a peek into the weird little corner of the blogopshere that is Dick Morris’ electoral predictions…

Want to know the real reason why Morris did this?
To push the McCain comeback meme…
If the election took place this week, it would be [...]

Chuck Todd Talks Electoral Outlook

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, McCain, Video

NBC’s heir apparent breaks it down…

Todd thinks McCain has to find a way to disqualify Obama for president in the debate tonight. But folks, that’s an impossible task. How can you disqualify somebody for president in a debate?
So what Todd is really saying is McCain is all but done. He was saying very similar things [...]

Electoral-Vote.com: Obama 357, McCain 181

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, McCain, Polls

This is the highest level of support Obama has had at this site since they’ve been tracking back in late June.

A couple notes about this map…
Note that both North Dakota and West Virginia are now either barely or leaning towards Obama. And while I think a place like North Dakota may be vulnerable, I still [...]

4 days ago I looked at the numbers, and at that time the average of the top 4 electoral sites shook out like this:
Electoral Projection Averages 10.08.08: Obama 354, McCain 184
So what could happen in four days?
Take a look…

A New Electoral Reality: Obama 380, McCain 158

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, History, McCain, West Virginia

With West Virginia now being thrown into the toss-up column on Pollster.com and FiveThirtyEight, this is what it would look like if Obama won all the swing states.

What’s more, if electoral history is any judge, the pickup of West Virginia wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise. Going back to the election of 1968, Dems have won [...]

Electoral Outlook Improves For Obama

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, McCain, Polls

5 days ago I did this same post, and since Obama’s national polling lead is holding steady, I thought I’d run the numbers again to see if there was any lift in his direction.
There is. Not only that, McCain has lost ground.
Five Thirty Eight: Obama 339.2, McCain 198.8

Chuck Todd Talks Electoral Map On Meet The Press

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, McCain, Video

The math is bleak for McCain.

By the way, I hope NBC gives Todd the Russert slot on MTP after the election. He’s more than earned it with his incredibly dead-on analysis this campaign season.

Chuck Todd, Electoral Math & Lessons Not Learned

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, Hillary, History, McCain, Video

First, one of the best breaks it down…

After watching this I’m reminded of the parallels to the Democratic primary season. Much like Hillary, McCain is now going to employ the “kitchen sink” strategy and thus run a big risk of looking extremely partisan. And no doubt it’ll drive up Obama’s negatives and close the gap [...]

The Delegate Math Gets Worse For McCain

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, McCain, Polls

First, a video of Chuck Todd explaining it all, and it ain’t pretty for McCain.

So Obama basically has 264 in the bag right now. That means he only needs 6 more electoral votes.
And just look at these projections…
FiveThirtyEight: Obama 333.2, McCain 204.8

Dan Rather Interviews Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Blogging, Electoral College

A great look at one of the most trusted bloggers when it comes to electoral prediction.

Right now FiveThirtyEight projects November 4th to turn out like this: Obama 336, McCain 202.
And this is the average of all the projections from the top electoral sites: Obama 327, McCain 201.
Pretty close to Silver’s numbers, yes?
He’s good folks.

Electoral Outlook Looks Great For Obama

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Electoral College, McCain, Polls

As a starter, Obama is up by 5 points or more in pretty much every single daily tracking poll. And it’s widely known that electoral projections rely on state polls, which usually trail the daily nationals by about a week. This is why we didn’t see an immediate uptick for McCain in the electoral counts [...]
