Weird, but I still forget that Obama considers Hawaii his home state.
Thanks for the reminder Chief.

I doubt this will quell the conspiracy crowd, but one can hope…

The state health director said yesterday she has personally seen and verified Sen. Barack Obama’s original birth certificate in an effort to address numerous requests for the document.

Obama, who is running against Sen. John McCain for president, posted on his Web site the birth certificate showing Honolulu as his birthplace.

State law prohibits the release of a birth certificate except to a person seeking his or her own certificate and the person’s spouse, parent and legal guardian.

But health officials have been receiving numerous e-mail and phone requests for the document, according to Janice Okubo, Heath Department spokeswoman.

Health Director Chiyome Fukino said she and the vital statistics registrar viewed and verified Obama’s birth certificate.

“No state official, including Gov. Linda Lingle, has ever instructed that this vital record be handled in a manner different from any other vital record in the possession of the State of Hawaii,” Fukino said.

So are we done with this? Can I stop seeing comments pop up at Donklephant from people claiming to know “the real truth” about Obama?

I’m not holding my breath.

It was bad enough that Kevin Cronin, Hawaii’s Chief Election Official, failed to register to vote for five months. It was part of the job qualification, but more importantly, he is supposed to set an example. By neglecting to register, he dismisses this important act as less important than his other duties. His excuse? Essentially, it is the time-old and worn-out, “I was too busy.”Â

Cronin claims to have worked six to seven days a week putting in a new voting system, preparing for the upcoming election and performing his other office duties. That is commendable. Yet that is no excuse for failing to perform the primary responsibility of every citizen–registering to vote. Cronin should have registered to vote once he moved from Wisconsin and before he assumed any responsibility at his new position.Â

Cronin only registered after the media picked up the possibility he was not registered. When that happened, Cronin immediately found the five minutes to register.Â

Here is Cronin’s explanation in his own words:

Until I registered to vote, I served as what the law calls a “de facto” official. A “de facto” official is one who in good faith may perform the duties of office without jeopardy to any decisions made. No one informed me otherwise. There is no question I was a citizen of the United States, older than 18 and a resident of Hawaii. All of that paperwork had been completed.

What remained to remove the “de facto” status was to complete an application to become a registered voter in Hawaii. Unfortunately, this was one of several personal items which remained on my to-do list and that working 6-7 days a week kept getting moved to the next day as I worried about getting a voting machine system secured for the state and to begin election preparations in what is expected to bring to the polls an unusually large number of voters. When the caller/reporter asked about my status, I left the office immediately to go to Honolulu Hale to register to vote.

To experience the attention and anger among many people over my voter registration status surprised me, especially when our beautiful state has so many more compelling issues like education, health care, and transportation, among others.

Instead of seeking excuses, Cronin would better serve his predicament by apologizing. A hard-working public servant is what everyone wants. However, to hide behind “de facto status” and “more compelling issues” is to shirk responsibility for what is a foolish neglect of his responsibility as a public official and American citizen. A simple, contrite apology might save his job if he really is as hard working as he claims.

I literally could not believe it when I read it (the article is from February), but here we go…because Obama came from a white mother and a highly educated black father…it follows that he’s more predisposed to be a Communist.

I know, it sounds like the stuff of fiction, but take a read from Lisa Schiffren of the National Review:

Obama and I are roughly the same age. I grew up in liberal circles in New York City — a place to which people who wished to rebel against their upbringings had gravitated for generations. And yet, all of my mixed race, black/white classmates throughout my youth, some of whom I am still in contact with, were the product of very culturally specific unions. They were always the offspring of a white mother, (in my circles, she was usually Jewish, but elsewhere not necessarily) and usually a highly educated black father. And how had these two come together at a time when it was neither natural nor easy for such relationships to flourish? Always through politics. No, not the young Republicans. Usually the Communist Youth League. Or maybe a different arm of the CPUSA. But, for a white woman to marry a black man in 1958, or 60, there was almost inevitably a connection to explicit Communist politics. (During the Clinton Administration we were all introduced to then U. of Pennsylvania Professor Lani Guinier — also a half black/half Jewish, red diaper baby.)

I don’t know how Barak Obama’s parents met. But the Kincaid article referenced above makes a very convincing case that Obama’s family, later, (mid 1970s) in Hawaii, had close relations with a known black Communist intellectual. And, according to what Obama wrote in his first autobiography, the man in question — Frank Marshall Davis — appears to have been Barack’s own mentor, and even a father figure. Of course, since the Soviet Union itself no longer exists, it’s an open question what it means practically to have been politically mentored by an official Communist. Ideologically, the implications are clearer.

I like how the author of this piece of agit-prop talks about New York City as if it’s the place where Communists meet, and then goes onto say she doesn’t know how his parents met in Hawaii, but hey…there’s this Communist that his parents knew and so…

Paging McCarthy…Joseph McCarthy…

And here’s the best part…

Political correctness was invented precisely to prevent the mainstream liberal media from persuing the questions which might arise about how Senator Obama’s mother, from Kansas, came to marry an African graduate student. Love? Sure, why not? But what else was going on around them that made it feasible?

Yes Lisa, that’s why political correctness was invented…precisely to make sure that your inane theories don’t get any traction.

Obviously this meme never stuck to Obama, but make no mistake…if this is the level of crazy we were seeing in February just wait until after the convention.

First, senator Daniel Akaka endorses, making 19 senators for Obama…

“I’ve followed the campaign for president closely … to see which candidate would articulate a vision for our country, encourage hope and renew faith in our government, and stand to rigors of a nationwide contest,” Akaka said in a statement released by Obama’s campaign office. “I’ve decided that for me, that candidate is Barack Obama.”

Akaka was the last uncommitted superdelegate in Hawai`i’s congressional delegation.

Then, Dolly Strazar of Hawaii endorses with the following…

As a Democratic National Committeewoman, I have felt it my duty to let this unique presidential campaign process play out, one that has reached across the country and engaged millions of Americans in expressing their preference for a Democratic nominee before expressing my preference as a superdelegate. I am now convinced that it is time to pull together behind a single candidate who has the backing of a growing number of Americans. I therefore announce my wholehearted endorsement of Senator Barack Obama.
