Ron Paul supporters are nothing if not passionate, and they’ve pushed his book to the top spot on the biggest online retail site in the world.
From CNN:
“The Revolution: A Manifesto”, released earlier this month, is currently No. 1 on the Web site’s list of top sellers, besting even Oprah’s latest Book Club selection.

Clinton “Claims” Popular Vote Lead, ABC Refutes

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, Florida, Hillary, Media, Michigan

This from Clinton’s ironically titled “The Fact Hub” blog:
After last night’s decisive victory in Pennsylvania, more people have voted for Hillary than any other candidate, including Sen. Obama.
Estimates vary slightly, but according to Real Clear Politics, Hillary has received 15,095,663 votes to Sen. Obama’s 14,973,720, a margin of more than 120,000 votes. ABC News reported [...]

Michigan Revote Is Dead, Granholm Miffed

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Michigan

You probably already know this, but there will be no revote in Michigan and the Governor ain’t happy.
Honestly, I had hoped they wouldn’t revote, given how clear the DNC’s punishment was, but I was willing to see them just do it to get it over with. Glad to see the Michigan legislature basically uphold the [...]

Why the Michigan Primary Won’t Go Forward: All Your Base Are Belong To Us

By 2008Central.net | Related entries in 2008 Election, Michigan

Chris Beam explained the stalemate yesterday:
Clinton has long insisted that failing to seat Michigan’s delegates would be equal to disenfranchising voters. (That is, after initially agreeing that Michigan wouldn’t count.) Today, she even lumped Michigan’s revote in with the “long struggle” of “women, African-Americans, Latinos and others” to “get to the point where barriers have [...]

What’s Going On With Michigan’s Revote?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Michigan

It’s on, it’s off, it’s on, it’s off, George Soros may be funding it, the Obama camp is playing coy with whether or not they’ll do it, the Michigan legislature can’t seem to agree, the Michigan legislature can seem to agree….and this has happened in the past three days!
But now the DNC has agreed to [...]

Michigan Redo In Doubt

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Hillary, Michigan

Many thought this was going to happen, but it’s running into the same internal opposition that the scuttled the Florida plan.
From Politico:
Michigan sources say a State Senate Democratic Caucus meeting that just ended left the state no closer to a re-vote.
“An overwhelming number of members had concerns and unreadiness to go this route,” State Senator [...]

Possible Florida/Michigan Delegate Split Plan

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Florida, Hillary, Michigan

TIME has the details…

Florida’s existing delegates would be seated at the Denver convention—but with half a vote each. That would give Clinton a net gain of about 19 elected delegates.
The two states’ superdelegates would then be able to vote in Denver, likely netting Clinton a few more delegates.

The betting: Florida and Michigan delegates, the DNC, [...]

Michigan To Hold A Caucus?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, Michigan

That’s the word from the DNC.
From The New Republic:
A member of the DNC’s Rules And Bylaws Committee–the committee that stripped Florida and Michigan of its delegates for moving their primaries before February 5th–told me that Michigan plans to get out of its uncounted delegate problem by announcing a new caucus in the next few days.
“They [...]

Dean: Michigan And Florida, Put Up Or Shut Up

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Florida, Hillary, Michigan

Looks like do-overs could be in the offing, but only if the states will cooperate.
From AP:
DNC Chairman Howard Dean issued a statement Wednesday that seemed to leave the matter for the states to resolve.
Dean said Michigan and Florida have two options: either submit a new plan for a process for choosing their convention delegates, or [...]

Florida And Michigan Demand Delegates Be Seated

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, Florida, Michigan

Good luck with that…
From TPM:
Gov. Charlie Crist (R-FL) seems to be backing away from a trial balloon that he would support a new Democratic primary in Florida — and he’s joined by Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) in standing firm on the January rogue primaries.
Crist and Granholm have put out a joint statement demanding that [...]

Hillary Will Try To Seat Michigan And Florida

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Florida, Hillary, Michigan

Quixotic or shrewd?
From TPM:
In a strongly-worded interview with Texas Monthly, Hillary leaves very little doubt that the campaign is preparing to get serious about getting the Florida and Michigan delegations seated.
“The people of those two states disregarded adamantly the DNC’s decision that they would not seat the delegates. They came out and voted,” Hillary told [...]

More Delegate Nonsense From The Clinton Camp

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Florida, Hillary, Michigan

Harold Ickes, a guy who voted to strip Michigan and Florida of their delegates, is now arguing they should be seated at the convention. Of course he’s part of the Clinton campaign.
What’s wrong with these people?:
In a conference call Saturday, the longtime Democratic Party member contended the DNC should reconsider its tough sanctions on the [...]

NAACP Wants To Seat Michigan And Florida

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, Florida, Michigan

I’m fine with that, as long as they seat the delegates in an even split between the two nominees so the votes don’t mean anything. Otherwise, it’s a no go. Not when those states didn’t have real contests. It doesn’t work that way, and anybody suggesting otherwise doesn’t have their head screwed on straight.
But here’s [...]

Clintons Try To Gain Michigan And Florida Delegates?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Billary, Democrats, Edwards, Florida, Hillary, Michigan

So the DNC yanked the delegates from these states because they moved their primaries up and now the Clintons are trying to get those delegates to count again?

Clinton Camp Claims Victory In Michigan

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Michigan, Race

I told you so…
(CNN) — Hillary Clinton’s campaign said Michigan’s Democratic primary vote for the New York senator sent a clear message — despite the fact that she was the only major presidential candidate on the ballot.
“Tonight Michigan Democrats spoke loudly for a new beginning,” said campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle in a statement sent [...]

Mitt Takes Michigan

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Fred Thompson, Huckabee, McCain, Michigan, Republicans, Romney, Ron Paul

Looks like he’ll pull 39% to McCain’s 30%. Huckabee pulled in a relatively strong 3rd at 16% considering the lack of evangelical support in Michigan. Ron Paul is pulling in 4th right now with 6%, with Thompson running a close 5th with 4%.

Michigan Turnout Low, Bad For McCain?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, McCain, Michigan, Romney

Big Week For Republicans

Michigan. South Carolina. Nevada. A lot will be decided this week, including whether or not Ron Paul can turn a good showing in Nevada into a media story. My prediction? Nope.

Arizona Sen. John McCain holds a slim lead over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney heading into the Republican primary [...]
