Quinnipiac: Obama Leads In Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Florida, McCain, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Polls

12 days till it’s over, and the numbers keep looking more and more favorable for Obama.
Florida: Obama +5
Obama 49%
McCain 44%
Ohio: Obama + 14
Obama 52%
McCain 38%
Pennsylvania: Obama +13
Obama 53%
McCain 40%
The biggest surprise here is Ohio, which I think is much closer than this 14% spread. In fact, I’d be surprised if Obama takes it [...]

McCain Cutting Ad Spending In WI, NH, MN, ME And…CO?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Bad Decisions, Barack, Colorado, McCain, Money, Pennsylvania, Polls

And you know if they’re cutting ad spending, they’re most likely conceding those states to the Obama camp.
Here’s more from The Caucus…
While station managers in the affected states said they were not ruling out the possibility that Mr. McCain would pump money back in before election day, on Nov. 4, the move represents a stark [...]

Official Scoffs At Voting Problems In Pennsylvania?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Pennsylvania, Video, Voting

I found the following story disturbing, not just because the folks in Philly seem to be so ill equipped to handle a high turnout on election day, but also because the guy heading up the preparations for Election Day seems completely uninterested in fixing them.

“Thank God.”
Folks, that’s a chilling ending to that video. A guy [...]

Shame On John Murtha

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Dumb Things Said By Smart People, Pennsylvania, Quotes, Race

“There’s no question Western Pennsylvania is a racist area.”
- John Murtha talking taking to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Broad charges of racism are dumb, lazy and don’t give credit to those who fight against areas where it does exists.
Murtha has subsequently apologized, but this is one Dem politician I’d love to see put out to pasture. I’ve [...]

McCain’s Road To POTUS Goes Through WI, MN Or PA?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, McCain, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin

That’s right. The McCain camp actually thinks they can win Wisconsin, Minnesota or Pennsylvania. Failure to win any of these states means he loses.
Huh?
“Our ability to pick off one of those three states is where our fortunes are largely held,” a McCain official said. “These are states where Barack Obama is on the defense.”
McCain [...]

Swing State Polls Signal Big Electoral Shift For Obama

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Florida, McCain, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Polls, Virginia

Earlier I shared some electoral projections that hinted at an Obama blowout, and now I have two sets of swing state polls that provide even more good news for his camp.
The key here is that Obama has crossed the 50% threshold in most of these polls with just a little more than a month [...]

Quinnipiac: Obama Up By 7 In Pennsylvania

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Independents, McCain, Pennsylvania, Polls, Republicans

Obama – 49%
McCain – 42%
He has a clear lead here, but this is down from a 52% to 40% lead last month, so it’s certainly something for the Obama folks to make sure they’re noticing. However, not really a big cause for concern…yet.
Demo details…

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Independents, McCain, Pennsylvania, Polls, Republicans

Obama – 52%

Superdelegate: Clinton Camp Used Race To Divide Party

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, History, Pennsylvania, Race

That’s the word from somebody who backed Clinton, and it ain’t pretty…
U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews, who supported Hillary Clinton throughout the primary season, disclosed he received a phone call shortly before the April 22 Pennsylvania primary from a top member of Clinton’s organization and that the caller explicitly discussed a strategy of winning over Jewish [...]

Hillary Picks Up A Superdelegate, Loses One

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Super Delegates!!!

This is almost the exact same post I wrote a couple days ago, and so far she’s simply running in place, unable to add any to her total.
First, she lost Rep. Donald Payne from New Jersey with the congressman citing the reason as trying to pull the party together…

So it’s 8 to 4 post-Pennsylvania in Obama’s favor since he announced an additional superdelegate today.
From PennLive:
Hillary Rodham Clinton will pick up the support of another influential superdelegate this morning when Bill George declares his support for the senator from New York.
George, the president of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, had been one of six remaining undeclared [...]

Joe Klein takes stock of the Pennsylvania primary aftermath and decides Barack Obama was hurt by the six-week campaign
[Obama] entered the primary as a fresh breeze and left it stale, battered and embittered — still the mathematical favorite for the nomination but no longer the darling of his party. In the course of six weeks, [...]

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Pennsylvania

The numbers are still shifting in the race, but with .49% left to report Hillary still hasn’t hit the “double digits” the media is widely misreporting today.
Here are the numbers…
Clinton – 1,238,232 – 54.6%
Obama – 1,030,703 – 45.4%
Clinton popular pickup – 207,529
What’s curious about these numbers is these were the totals this morning…

With 84% In, Hillary Hits 10% Threshold

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Pennsylvania

This is the homestretch and if she can hold this, she might just be able to get the double digits she needed out of PA.
Some realities…

97% of Philadelphia county has reported their results, so it’s unlikely Obama will gain much from his biggest support base in the state.
Lehigh county has only reported 60% so far, [...]

Hillary Wins Pennsylvania

That much everybody expected. By how big a margin is the question now.

As the results pour in, pundits, Democrats, and the media will characterize whether Clinton won by a large enough margin of victory. Devine and other Democrats have long argued the New York senator needed to win the Keystone State over Obama by [...]
