Obama - 49%
McCain - 42%
He has a clear lead here, but this is down from a 52% to 40% lead last month, so it’s certainly something for the Obama folks to make sure they’re noticing. However, not really a big cause for concern…yet.

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, History, Pennsylvania, Race

That’s the word from somebody who backed Clinton, and it ain’t pretty…
U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews, who supported Hillary Clinton throughout the primary season, disclosed he received a phone call shortly before the April 22 Pennsylvania primary from a top member of Clinton’s organization and that the caller explicitly discussed a strategy of winning over Jewish [...]

Hillary Picks Up A Superdelegate, Loses One

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Super Delegates!!!

This is almost the exact same post I wrote a couple days ago, and so far she’s simply running in place, unable to add any to her total.
First, she lost Rep. Donald Payne from New Jersey with the congressman citing the reason as trying to pull the party together…
“After careful consideration, I have reached the [...]

So it’s 8 to 4 post-Pennsylvania in Obama’s favor since he announced an additional superdelegate today.
From PennLive:
Hillary Rodham Clinton will pick up the support of another influential superdelegate this morning when Bill George declares his support for the senator from New York.
George, the president of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, had been one of six remaining undeclared [...]

After PA, Obama Needs to Work on Image

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Pennsylvania

Joe Klein takes stock of the Pennsylvania primary aftermath and decides Barack Obama was hurt by the six-week campaign
[Obama] entered the primary as a fresh breeze and left it stale, battered and embittered — still the mathematical favorite for the nomination but no longer the darling of his party. In the course of six weeks, [...]

With 84% In, Hillary Hits 10% Threshold

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Pennsylvania

This is the homestretch and if she can hold this, she might just be able to get the double digits she needed out of PA.
Some realities…

97% of Philadelphia county has reported their results, so it’s unlikely Obama will gain much from his biggest support base in the state.
Lehigh county has only reported 60% so far, [...]

Hillary Wins Pennsylvania

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Pennsylvania

That much everybody expected. By how big a margin is the question now.
From ABC:
As the results pour in, pundits, Democrats, and the media will characterize whether Clinton won by a large enough margin of victory. Devine and other Democrats have long argued the New York senator needed to win the Keystone State over Obama by [...]

Pennsylvania Popular Vote/Delegate Realities

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Pennsylvania

A lot of people have been asking “what’s a win for Hillary tonight?”
Well, the whispers have been she has to win by double digits, and that’s certainly doable. However, the New York Times sets a higher bar when you look at it from a popular vote delegate standpoint…

From NY Times:
“Let’s just say it’s very busy,” said Joseph Passarella, the director of voter services for Montgomery County, sounding a little harried. “Our phones have been ringing since 6:15 this morning and have been ringing nonstop. We’ve never had a primary election this busy.”
Voting lines were long and voter-service phone lines were jammed across [...]

How Can Obama Win Pennsylvania?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Pennsylvania

Oddly enough, by repeating the strategy Hillary supporter Ed Rendell used against Obama support Bob Casey, Jr. in the 2002 Democratic gubernatorial primary.
From Politico:
Rendell won that closely contested race with a coalition of African Americans and upscale, highly educated white voters—a coalition like the one assembled by Obama. Casey focused on blue collar workers, union [...]
