Ron Paul Wins Independent Vote In Iowa

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Independents, Iowa, Ron Paul

He beat McCain, 29% to 21%.
But with voters who identified themselves as Republicans, he pulled in 7%. Only Giuliani did worse, with 4%. I’m not counting Hunter, since I think 3 people voted for him tonight.
By the way, 81% of the voters were Republicans and 13% were Independents.
What does this tell you Paulites? Well, your [...]

Ron Paul To Place 5th In Iowa

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Iowa, Ron Paul

Fred Thompson and John McCain are virtually tied with 14% apiece, and they’re pulling away from Ron Paul. Looks like he’ll end up with 10% of the vote, which is respectable, but we all know he was hoping for a lot more.
Still, he should be included in any forum or debate from here on out. [...]

Huckabee Wins? Ron Paul Could Tie For 3rd?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Fred Thompson, Huckabee, Iowa, Republicans, Romney, Ron Paul

There’s no way I’m calling it this early, but that’s what CNN is reporting. Huck is about 10% ahead of Romney, and that’s because 60% of the GOP voters who came out tonight were evangelicals. Big, big night for Huckabee and a big disappointment for Romney.
Surprise of the night? Fred Thompson, followed closely by McCain [...]

Could Ron Paul Win 3rd In Iowa?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Huckabee, Iowa, Money, New Hampshire, Republicans, Romney, Ron Paul

I think it’s actually realistic. Here’s why…
Romney and Huckabee have 1st and 2nd locked up. The order in which they’ll finish is still up in the air, but I have a feeling that Huckabee could grab 1st because people just don’t seem to like Romney that much. Still, he has spent a ton of money [...]

Ron Paul’s Q4 Take: $19,557,200

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Money, Ron Paul

That’s the number I’m seeing at RonPaulGraphs.com, so I’m pretty sure it’s accurate. Truly impressive.
Here’s more from WSJ:
To be sure, other Republican candidates hadn’t disclosed their fourth-quarter fund-raising figures as of yesterday. But to date, only former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has issued a better three-month report, and just once: $20.8 million in the [...]

Ron Paul IN Fox’s New Hampshire Debate

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, New Hampshire, Ron Paul

Yep. He’s in and he always has been.
The Boston Globe got caught up in it, as did I. But frankly, Paul should have checked his sources before he said Fox News was scared of him. Sure, I should have checked too, but I’m not running for President..
From Nolan Chart:
There is NO NH DEBATE on [...]

Republican Like Me

By mw | Related entries in 2008 Election, Bad Decisions, Libertarian, Republicans, Ron Paul

For a year the idea had haunted me, and Thursday night it returned more insistently than ever. If a Democrat became a Republican in San Francisco, what adjustments would he have to make? What is it like to experience discrimination based on political belief…

Fox News Excludes Ron Paul From New Hampshire Debate?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Media, New Hampshire, Ron Paul

That’s the word on the street and it makes absolutely no sense. They’re going to keep a guy out who will have easily raised over $20 million once Q4 is over?
And let’s not forget how slanted Fox News is towards conservatives, so this move seems like, well, it’s designed to hurt Paul’s support in the [...]

Ron Paul Plays Religion Card In New Ad

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Religion, Ron Paul

First he said this…
“It reminds me of what Sinclair Lewis once said. He says, ‘when fascism comes to this country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross.’ Now I don’t know whether that’s a fair assessment or not, but you wonder about using a cross, like he is the only Christian or [...]

The Reality Of Ron Paul’s Support

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 3rd Party, Ron Paul

Ever had deja vu? That feeling that you’ve experience something that happened before? Well, I’ve had this feeling for the past several months, and while the two situations aren’t exactly the same they’re close enough to spook me nonetheless.
And sadly, the following blog post nails the problem with what this deja vu is all about: [...]

Ron Paul/Meet The Press Liveblog

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Ron Paul

He’s on for the full hour. He’s on for a half hour.
Watch it if you can.
9:02:
Get rid of the income tax. What would you replace it with? Paul doesn’t really know. He’d cut spending and bring troops home. It would save hundred of billions.
He’s not very specific and I think that’s hurting him.

Who’s More Principled Than Ron Paul?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Ron Paul

Seriously. Can you think of any politician off the top of your head?
From Tucker Carlson…
One thing you can say for certain: The crowds at Ron Paul rallies aren’t coming to be entertained. Stylistically, a Paul speech is about as colorful as a tax return. He is the only politician I’ve ever seen who doesn’t [...]

Ron Paul: Spoiler Or Savior?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, New Hampshire, Ron Paul

AP has an interesting article today about Paul’s effect on New Hampshire:
Fergus Cullen, the New Hampshire Republican party chairman who is neutral in the race, said Paul’s campaign has sent more campaign mail to households than any other organization has. Radio advertising is heavy, although paid television advertising has been relatively modest so far.
Current polls [...]

Why I don’t support Ron Paul

By Sean Aqui | Related entries in 2008 Election, Ron Paul

Hey, everyone! It’s been a while: I took a three-month hiatus from blogging when real life turned hectic. But I’m back now, and hope to resume regular posting here at Donklephant.
Recently a regular Midtopia reader who I greatly respect took me to task in this post for curtly dismissing Ron Paul as a nutty libertarian. [...]

Andrew Sullivan Backs Ron Paul

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Ron Paul

While this isn’t surprising, I wonder who he would pick between if Paul and Obama actually got the nominations of their respective parties. He seems much more in line with Obama right now, but I think he seems to long for the idea of a libertarian in the White House.
From Daily Dish:
But the deeper reason [...]

Ron Paul Breaks One Day Fundraising Record

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Iowa, Ron Paul

The original record was set in 2004 by John Kerry to the tune of $5.7 million. And that was after the Democratic convention. Think of all the press surrounding that event. Think of the drive to try and get Bush out of the White House.
And yet with very little fanfare, Ron Paul has gone over [...]

Ron Paul On Mad Money About Federal Reserve

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Economy, Money, Ron Paul, Video

Just watched a good segment about holding the Federal Reserve accountable, and while Jim Cramer’s voice makes my skin crawl (dude, you don’t have to yell EVERY SINGLE WORD), Ron Paul’s commentary is great.

Market forces should determine interest rates, not the Fed.
No candidate will talk about this except Ron Paul.
Why?

Ron Paul On Track For $5,000,000 Day

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Money, Ron Paul

It’s 11:45 CST and here are the numbers…

Looks like it’ll be hard to break the record, but it definitely looks like the Paulites are on track to break the $4.2 million day they had in November.
And from Wolf Blitzer this morning about 3rd party chances:

“What is the chance that you will run as an [...]

How Much Will The Ron Paul Tea Party Raise?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Money, Ron Paul

That’s the question all the campaigns are asking themselves tonight. From Republicans to Democrats, I guarantee you they’re keeping a close eye on the Paulites. They know the bigger the number is tomorrow, the bigger threat Paul is long term. Yes, I’m talking about 3rd party. Because don’t tell me that Ron Paul supporters will [...]
