Rove Kill

Orin Kerr at the Volokh Conspiracy points out that the leaks in the Rove/Plame story now have leaks of their own.

I wonder if the Plame story will now play out in an infinite loop of leak investigations. The Plame investigation is looking into the leak of Plame’s identity; Rove testified about the leak; and now someone is leaking Rove’s testimony, perhaps in violation of the grand jury secrecy rules. This clearly calls for a new investigation of who is leaking Rove’s grand jury testimony. The prosecutor can them empanel a grand jury and call in witnesses to see who leaked the Rove testimony, which presumably will lead to more grand jury testimony, and then someone will leak some goodies from that new testimony. Then a new prosecutor can investigate the new leaks, opening an investigation to see who leaked about the leak about the leak about the leak.

The whole Rove thing? I suppose I could care less. Every candidate who hopes to get within pissing distance of the White House these days has to have a political voodoo doctor, it seems. Their contemptible careers — men despised but feared — seem like something from Machiavelli for Dummies.

And they always come to a bad end. It’s as predictable as a Sunday School tract, and the only vaguely interesting plot element is how much partisan gore is spilled in the fall. Really, Rasputin set the standard. Everyone after him is just a piker.

The “walking the plank” scene is interesting in a panem et circenses way, I suppose, if you’re one of those who lives by the party and wants things to play out so the opposition can harvest the maximum amount of political hay. They write of it breathlessly and with multiple exclamation marks.

“This proves the administration is X, Y, Z, …” No it doesn’t. It just shows the way the wind blows through some things when they’re twisting in it.

Possibly the fact that the media is involved and its essential shabbiness stands exposed, is interesting to some people. Doesn’t surprise me that it stinks. I’ve been shoveling in that stable for 22 years now.

Whatever you think about the media, I think the Meet The Press transcript was certainly informative.
