Actually--Read Howard Zinn and tell me that at least when it comes to History most people have any clue about history that would be a from a liberal perspective (if history can be called liberal). In general, the status quo is sanitized and dissent is erased.

Most public schools have a slight, (usually) unintentional left bias. It's not so much about the schools turning kids into drones (although they do do that, just not necessarily socialist drones--just a general lack of decision making and critical thinking) as it is about eliminating viable options for schools with other cultural/social/political biases. And this is still a big what-if scenario. The public schools are already slight left, so the administration understands that this is only an area to focus on once (if?) the economy and Afghanistan settle a bit.

I think Chuck's implying something completely different though. Implying that public education is akin to signing your children into the "reducation" camps where they turn everyone into .... Socialist Drones!

It's alarmist, but crazy? The argument would be pretty simple.

"To compete in the global marketplace, to ensure that Americans are ready for green, 21st century jobs, we must place education as our top priority. And we simply cannot risk, at this critical time in history, a free-market education system where anything goes. Therefore, with the passage of this bill, we will ensure that all Americans have true equality of education, and are truly prepared for prosperity in the decades to come."

See? Writing Obama-esque purple political prose really isn't all that tough. And the above hypothetical bill would be tied to free college education, so if you argue against "public education as the only education," you're arguing against college scholarships for everyone, and are thus a bad, evil person.

So while Chuck is being overly dramatic, JG, you're being overly dismissive.
