The RNC’s New Microsite

By The Pajama Pundit | Related entries in RNC

The Republican National Committee has launched, where you can find (and get embed code) for this dandy little debt ticker:

Obama Debt Watch

Now, as I talked about earlier this week, I think that the line-of-attack that the President “is absent” because he’s on vacation is plain wrong:

To equate vacation time (within reason) with work ethic would be a mistake, particularly as it relates to one of/the most stressful jobs on the planet. And, as Frum points out, the President never really gets a vacation.

That said, the little debt watch embeddable thing is effective. You copy & paste into your blog/site and the rapidly increasing number really gets the viewer’s attention.

Afterthought: visit the site and you’ll notice the beach theme (because the President is on vacation silly). Along with that visual, there is some background noise. It appears that the GOP wanted to go with a beachy-sounding effect — but honestly, the sounds just make me want to pee…

    What an utter joke.

    What about Bush’s vacation time?
    The debt under his term?

I’m not trying to sling mud here, the past is essentially the past. But these are the exact people that called me un-American because I wasn’t for the endless waste of the war. Arrogant when I had shutters seeing the President of the new millennium barely able to express a thought. And ignorant when I questioned anything they deemed as fact.

I’m not surprised, since obviously they only know how to be thugs and not thinkers. But if the RNC thinks they will win moderates over on this one they have to be kidding.

Obama vacation days since taking office: 48 days
Bush vacation days at the same time in his presidency: 115 days

What we independents need is a “stupid evergreen boilerplate partisan bullshit” calendar.

I despise the moronic evergreen meme that criticizes the President for taking a vacation because of crisis x. It’s just beyond dumb. The president is on call and plugged in 24-7, and he has a huge staff keeping an eye on all kinds of shit.

If the media is going to insist in playing along with this idiocy, they should follow and report on the leisure activities of the major leaders from each party, too.

All of this “it’s all about the president” stuff has just gone way too far at this point. To me it’s jumped the shark.

The vacation theme is getting old. ‘dubya made 77 total “vacation” trips to his Texas ranch while in office, nine of them — all or part of 69 days — came during just his first year as president in 2001, according to Knoller.

Just another case of GOP hypocrisy in action.

  5. Labelle Says:

Exactly – what about Bush in his term?
The problem is – people eat these kinds of number counters up without seeing the bigger picture. And being on vacation isn’t being absent – absent sounds like AWOL.

    Hypocrisy indeed.
