iPad Pro 9.7 vs. Apple iPad (2017) – Best Specs and Features Comparison

Let’s compare this year’s Apple iPad with the new iPad Pro 9.7 announced in March.

We already know that the Apple iPad from 2017 is the cheapest way of getting your hands on an Apple tablet. Let’s see how it compares to iPad Pro 9.7.

Design

Both devices feature a similar design and they only have a few slight differences. They offer slim premium metal constructions with round corners and edges and they have the Touch ID home button beneath the screen on the front. The iPad Pro 9.7 is a bit lighter (it is 437g/444g compared to Apple iPad which is 469g/478g) and also slimmer (6.1mm compared to 7.5mm) and it features a Smart Connector and raised rear camera lens. Additionally, the iPad Pro 9.7 comes also in a rose gold color.

Display

Both devices feature a 9.7-inch display and a 2048 x 1538 resolution (264ppi). On the other hand, the iPad Pro’s display is fully laminated and it features an antireflective coating. It also has a wider color gamut and it features the True Color technology.

The new iPad also has vibrant and natural colors therefore it too offers a great experience. It also features iOS Night Shift that reduces the blue light emitted by the screen relaxing your eyes.

Camera

The iPad Pro 9.7 features a 12MP rear camera with a f/2.2 aperture and 4K video recordings, a 5MP front camera, and it boasts rear True Tone Flash a front Retina Flash, and also Live Photo feature.

The new iPad from 2017 has an 8MP rear camera with a f/2.4 aperture and 1080p video recording capabilities. It features a 1.2MP front camera. Neither of the two cameras have a flash.

Both phones feature Auto HDR photos, face detection, exposure control, burst mode, timer mode and photo geotagging.

Hardware

The iPad 2017 comes with the A9 chip and an embedded M9 processor, while the iPad Pro 9.7 comes with a more advanced A9X chip with embedded M9 coprocessor.

The iPad Pro 9.7 comes with the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard and also four-speaker audio, compared to the two-speaker audio of the iPad 2017.

Both devices offer up to 10 hours of battery life, 32GB and 128GB of storage. The iPad Pro is also available in a 256GB option.

Software & price

Both devices run on iOS 10.

The iPad 2017 starts at £339 for the 32GB and goes up to £559 for the 128GB. The iPad Pro starts at £549 and goes up to £849 for the 256GB option.

The iPad 2017 is much cheaper as you can see, and even if it doesn’t match the specs of the iPad Pro, it’s quite a brilliant tablet with great performance.
