Samuel Alito, Activists, & Bloggers - Oh My!

Senate Democrats and Republicans — along with interest groups both for and against Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr.’s Supreme Court nomination — fell into formation yesterday to begin the battle they’ve been expecting for more than a decade.
“This one is going to be Armageddon,” said Sen. Orrin G. Hatch, Utah Republican and former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Geez — sounds a bit like advertising for a WWF match instead of a congressional nomination hearing.
This observation does bring up a good point as to the potential power that the respective groups of activists and bloggers could represent in this impending Supreme Showdown.
How much of a factor do you think each of these public opinion power bases will have upon the “Clash of the Parties?”
Based upon Washington’s recognition of blogging community activity during the recent Miers nomination torpedoing, it would appear as if their influence will continue to increase as the politicos strategize their possible battle plans.
I wonder when the busloads of pro-life and pro-abortion protestors will start arriving at the Capitol?

This fight is the culmination of a 40 year old social movement finally having its chance to “restore” the supreme court.
The Democrats have the clout to stop Alito, but do they have the balls? Maybe thats not important, maybe the question is whether Snowe and Collins have balls - they obviously don’t - but they’ll need them.
