Veterans, Breathe Easy…

They got your information back, and it looks like nothing was compromised…

WASHINGTON, June 29 The government has recovered a stolen laptop computer and external hard drive that contains the birthdates and Social Security numbers for millions of veterans and military personnel, the Department of Veterans Affairs said Thursday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a statement from its Baltimore field office that it appeared that the data had not been copied or misused.

“A preliminary review of the equipment by computer forensic teams has determined that the database remains intact and has not been accessed since it was stolen,” the statement said.

While it’s too early to say whether or not this information is actually safe, I think it’s a good bet to think that some idiots stole this laptop and couldn’t even get pass the password protection to unlock the thing.

Now then, I think I’d like to speak for my readers for a moment and speak to the V.A. Are you listening V.A.? Good.

Fix your procedures immediately.

We’re not asking.

Thank you.

I don’t think I’ll be able to breathe easy. The Commanding Officer of my command recently found out that $1110 was stolen from his account, definately after the the compromise of VA information. Coincidence? Perhaps.

I totally agree with your point of policy change within the VA. Why would such sensitive information be on a device that could be so easily compromised?

This could be a major breach.

Please email me at justinpgardner at yahoo dot com and I’ll get this info into the right hands.

Awesome. The VA laptops were found and now the Red Cross is missing some.
