What The Hell Is Wrong With John Gibson?
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Partisan Hacks
Even though he’s always been highly partisan, the Fox News commentator seems to be freely venturing into Coulter territory.
“Hang on, Dems. Here come the Pol Pots of your party. And if you were for national security, you are now emphatically not. Or else. Remember the mountain of skulls in Cambodia? It’s the Democrats’ new reality now that the anti-war rabble has tasted blood by taking Lieberman down.
So this is what passes for genuine political commentary these days? This guy actually gets paid to say this stuff?
Jeezus…
UPDATE:
Oh wait! This was the guy who wrote that ridiculous book “The War On Christmas” and then tried to manufacture a crisis along with O’Reilly to sell the book last year. They failed miserably, but I can’t believe I forgot that.
Haha, yeah, he’s always been a hack.

This is what passes for commentary on Fox News. The guy couldn’t work as a commentator anywhere else. Neither could Tammy Bruce.
Yeah, those Democrats, they’re such extremists. Not like normal people like John Gibson. These guys have really gone off the deep end with the defeat of Joe Lieberman for some reason.
Pol Pot? Mountains of skulls? This guy sounds more radical than Ahmadinejad, a name I’m sure he can’t pronounce.

This is another case of someone reaching for too crazy of a metaphor to make their too-simple point. That seems to be a common practice in American politics and one I seriously doubt is new (it’s just more noticed because communication is so vast these days). People like Gibson not only lack new ideas, they lack new ways to express them. That’s why they call it an echo chamber, I guess.

Do you at least see that he is referring to the Cambodian holocaust that followed after premature American withdrawal from the Vietnam war? He is not saying Lamont is a Pol pot, rather, Iraq will become another “killing-field” where millions could be slaughtered if Iraq is abandoned prematurely.
Gibson is a douchebag, however.

Jimmy,
You may be right but I actually took the meaning to be that the Democrat leftists are the Khmer Rouge, purging their ranks of all intellect and dissent. Perhaps he means both. Hard to tell when I’ve only seen the quote out of context …
Either way, it’s not exactly the kind of rhetoric that elevates American culture or society.

Thanks Jimmy no I didn’t realize that and I was wondering what the hell he was talking about…Pol Pot…why not Hitler, Stalin, Bundy, exc…but now it makes much more sense with a little historic perspective and it makes Gibson (while agree he is a duche bag) seem like less of a hack (with this issue) with a bit more knowledge.

btw, with that reference, that is perfectly legitimate political commentary.

The only context where that would be perfectly legtimate political commentary is if it was preceded by. “Whoever would say the following is a hack trying to score points with Republicans.”
Pol Pots of your party? Go back and read the quote again people. The meaning is VERY clear.

The best thing to do is read the entire column for yourself. It’s worth a click over…

It sounded pretty incoherent to me. Looking back at it, I can kind of see Alan’s point. However, at the time of reading I couldn’t make any sense of it.

What’s wrong with John Gibson?
He is a Major League Asshole and a buffoon to boot. That’s what’s wrong with him. Unfortunately, there is no cure.
