Saddam Sentenced To Death

Good riddance…

As he, his half brother and another senior official in his regime were convicted and sentenced to death by the Iraqi High Tribunal, Saddam yelled out, “Long live the people and death to their enemies. Long live the glorious nation, and death to its enemies!” Later, his lawyer said the former dictator had called on Iraqis to reject sectarian violence and refrain from revenge against U.S. forces.

The trial brought Saddam and his co-defendants before their accusers in what was one of the most highly publicized and heavily reported trials of its kind since the Nuremberg tribunals for members of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime and its slaughter of 6 million Jews in the World War II Holocaust

“The verdict placed on the heads of the former regime does not represent a verdict for any one person. It is a verdict on a whole dark era that has was unmatched in Iraq’s history,” said Nouri al-Maliki, Iraq’s Shiite prime minister.

And yet, isn’t it ironic that this guy gets a trial while thousands are stuck without rights indefinitely?

Justin you’re being way too cynical here. We, the American People, can now thank God (and George W.) that Saddam will never again be able to strike us as he did on 9/11.

    Oh, wait…

[...] Saddam, co-defendants sentenced to hang. Good riddance to bad rubbish. (via Donklephant) [...]

You’re right Justin, when we find a Sunni terrorist we should give them over to the Shites for trial and visa versa. I’m sure their fate would be much better than the care and custody of US troops.

What a shame about Saddam. He seemed like such a nice man.

What’s REALLY suspicious is the fact that after a year, the verdict FINALLY appears late in the week before the election…anyone want to guess WHY Rove and Bush have been so convinced they would keep both houses of Congress?

Lemme guess, breaking news Monday morning: Osama bin Ladin has been captured in Outer Roviastan!

It is remarkable that Saddam has been sentenced for a crime he committed in 1982, at a time when the USA was more than eager to provide support to Saddam Hussein’s regime and was complicit in some of his crimes. As usual, this fact has not even been mentioned by our amnesiac media. Donald Rumsfeld, the incarnation of this administration’s moral bankruptcy, went to Baghdad shaking hands with Saddam, on December 20, 1983 (http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB82/).

At that time, Rumsfeld knew that Saddam was a dangerous dictator (contrary to 2003, when he wasn’t dangerous any more). He knew about the 1982 massacre that has now been recognized as a “crime against humanity”. Donald Rumsfeld knew that Saddam had ordered the use of chemical weapons against Iran in breach of the Geneva conventions (contrary to 2003, when Rumsfeld knew exactly that there were no chemical weapons). And he went to Baghdad in 1983, shaking hands with Saddam Hussein, offering him the support of the United States. That’s the story that will be told in the history book.

I believe that Saddam got off easy, really. When you consider what he did and that he spawned his two vile ,subhuman sons.I believe that he should have been sentenced to being staked-out in the desert. Then anyone who lost family by his actions would be allowed to drop one drop of battery acid on him for each person lost. The right to burn-out his eyes, his voice box,and his privates would be auctioned to the highest bidders, with prceeds going to an orphan/widow fund. I believe that the law of return can be a real mother……
