Dean To Superdelegates: Decide Now
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Super Delegates!!!, VideoI agree. It’s about time for these people to decide, and if that means more people go for Hillary, so be it.
(CNN)— An increasingly firm Howard Dean told CNN again Thursday that he needs superdelegates to say who they’re for – and “I need them to say who they’re for starting now.â€â€œWe cannot give up two or three months of active campaigning and healing time,†the Democratic National Committee Chairman told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “We’ve got to know who our nominee is.â€
Now let’s go to the video…
Again, I think they’ve had enough time to make an informed decision. They can always switch their vote if something catastrophic happens.

Dean To Supersdelegates: Time To Choose…

If they want the primary to be over now, they should not have scheduled primaries into June. To force the superdelegates to decide now would disenfranchise the voters in the states who have not voted yet.

Justin’s headline is misleading and distorts what Dean said. In this clip Dean says that he wishes superdelegates would declare “starting now”. He then says he would like them to have declared by July, after all the primaries are complete. This is not new and is consistent with what Dean has been saying for a while, and in similar clips on other stations.
In any case, not one supe is going to make a decision based on when Dean thinks they should. They’ll be perfectly happy to wait and let this play out.
If, Obama can close the deal in PA or IN the race will be over next week. If Obama cannot close the deal despite outspending Clinton 4 to 1, more superdelegate will have more questions whether he is the right person to lead the ticket, and will wait for subsequent primaries. Dean will have nothing to do with it.

Yep. And what you said about Dean as well. He knows better than to DEMAND a decision from a few hundred politicos who wield power of their own. My sympathies for Dean are minimal–he and his party cohorts set the stage for this when they started playing with primary schedules nearly two years ago.
