McCain’s Humor

Want a Rorschach test? Answer this: is John McCain’s sense of humor refreshing or inappropriate for a presidential candidate?

McCain has, on more than one occasion, gotten himself into trouble when his sense of humor has crossed into the realm of the offensive (or that shadow realm of the “perceived to be offensive.”). Anyone who cracks jokes regularly will cross the line from time to time. That’s not much of a problem for most of us. But it usually behooves presidential candidates to have a fine-tuned sense of “the line” or just stick to a few tried and true zingers.

But McCain is still letting his humor fly. Will that be a liability going forward? Politicohas a great look at McCain’s humor, how it’s caused him problems in the past and how it’s playing in this election. Very much worth the read.
