Obama To Keep Paulson On Post Transition

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Economy, Money

Lots of bi-partisanship popping up in the wake of this economic hurricane, and this move could be one of the more significant moves given how intricate the details of this bailout will be.

From Politico:

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said Sunday that if he’s elected, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson would be “involved” in the new administration’s transition – a very unusual move when the White House changes parties. [...]

In an interview Sunday in Charlotte, N.C., CNBC’s John Harwood asked Obama in an interview for airing on a special Sunday night: “Would you consider having (Treasury Secretary Henry M.) Paulson stay on?”

“I would certainly want to make sure that Paulson was involved in the transition,” Obama said. “That doesn’t necessarily mean that he’d end up being the secretary Treasury, but I think it’s important for us to make sure that those who are currently in charge when it comes to the financial crisis and defense and intelligence, that they are deeply involved in the transition process.”

Obviously Obama and Paulson are probably very different when it comes to the ideology of the Secretary of Treasury position, but perhaps having Paulson stay on for another year would be appropriate while we try to dig our way out of this mess?

More as it develops…

I cannot believe he said this. An engineer of this mess should stay on? Paulson was CEO of one of the largest facilitators of this mess? This is simply incredible and outrageously stupid and I am an Obama supporter.

Obama keeping Paulson on.hmmm… Paulson was a member of the inner circle of financial planners who planned the sale of the junk derivatives, who profited to the level of billions in bonuses during his time at Goldmnan Sax, who knew of the upcoming financial crises and didn’t prevent it and Obama wants to keep this man???

I’ve been planning to vote Obama since last April but this one decision is a non-starter. I may have to switch my vote. Leaving one of the unapologetic pirates in charge of the 700 billion in ill-gotten spoils is the biggest mistake of Obama’s political career.
There are so many angry people that I hear plans of camping outside the homes of these Lehman Brothers and other “Titans of Finance” CEO’s until they give back their 39 billion in ill-gotten gains. If people are ready to riot those are the men to take their hatred too. That includes Paulson.
Obama, put as much distance between these men and yourself or lose the election!!!
