7 Tips on Building a YouTube Marketing Plan for Businesses

Want to reach a bigger audience? How does an audience of 2+ billion sound?

YouTube is one of the most popular websites across the globe. By coming up with a YouTube marketing plan, you can use video content to grow your business.

Ready to find out how? Then keep reading for 7 quick tips!

1. Know What You Want

You want more customers, yes, but what do you specifically wish to achieve through marketing with videos?

Marketing with videos can get expensive. You’ll want to have specific and measurable goals before beginning your campaign so you can better measure your effectiveness.

2. Optimize Your Titles and Tags

Creating great titles might seem tough, but it’s quite formulaic once you know how it’s done. There’s even a handy template you can use with each video to optimize your searchability!

Frontload the keyword and follow it up with a colon. Next, add the rest of the title describing the video. It’s important, however, that your title doesn’t exceed 10 words.

As an example, let’s say you’re making a YouTube tutorial with the keywords ‘common YouTube features’. Your title would look like this:

“Common YouTube Features: Understanding Your Metrics”

Remember, titles are supposed to be searchable, which means keeping them brief and natural.

Likewise, your video tags should utilize the keyword you’ve selected.

3. Set a Consistent Release Schedule

As with most things in the marketing world, the key to marketing with videos is consistency! Aim to publish your videos often, avoiding large gaps of off-time.

People are creatures of habit. As such, we love routines.

Schedule your videos to publish at the same time so your audience learns when to check back for new content.

4. Enable Parallel Tracking

Parallel tracking is a new form of ad tracking from Google, YouTube’s parent company. Instead of traditional redirects, which can result in a slow page loading time, parallel tracking measures clicks via third-party software.

It’s faster, and it only takes an opt-in from your Google Ads account to set up.

What’s more, as of April 30, 2021, enabling parallel tracking is now mandatory. So failing to update your account could lead to penalties for your channel.

5. Keep It Entertaining and Informational

One of the biggest mistakes companies makes when marketing with YouTube — or with their digital marketing strategy in general — is to assume all content has to read like traditional copy.

Your content shouldn’t come across as an ad. Instead, aim to entertain and inform your audience.

Sure, you’ll add a call-to-action at the end, but customers can smell pandering a mile away. So keep it light and fun.

6. Share Your Videos

Your digital marketing should function within one large ecosystem. Your website should feed into your social pages, which feed into your YouTube channel, which then leads back to your website.

To make sure your ecosystem is a working one, remember to share your videos whenever you publish them. You can set up auto-posting in most content management systems.

7. Listen to Feedback

Make sure to get lots of feedback from your audience.

Reaching out and asking for input is a great way to come up with new topics, for example. Plus, you can learn more about what your audience does and doesn’t like about your production process so you can adjust accordingly.

After all, your audience is the ones watching the videos, so why not directly ask for their help?

Create a YouTube Marketing Plan That Works for Your Business

Even if you don’t have prior video production experience, creating a YouTube marketing plan doesn’t have to be a nightmare. As long as you’re consistent and know what you want from the endeavor, listening to your audience along the way, you should be fine!
