Setting Any Song As Your iPhone ringtone

One of the easiest ways to personalize an iPhone is by adding a ringtone that you like the most. Well, it seems that there are many new iPhone users who don’t have any clue how to set a song as their iPhone ringtone and today we will explain all the steps that need to taken in order to do this.

We have to mention that you can also set different ringtones for the special people from your life in order to know who is calling you without even looking at the display.

Selecting And Editing A Song

First of all, you will need to get a song from iTunes to use it as a ringtone. Open the iTunes on your desktop computer and click on “My Music” tab. After that, select a song that’s on your hard drive and right click on it and choose Get Info->Options and in this panel you will notice settings for “Start” and “Stop”. Keep in mind that a ringtone can be only 30 seconds long, so you will need to make sure that the ringtone you’re about to create is not longer than that (you won’t delete the actual song, so don’t worry about cutting it).

Finally, select the song that you’ve created and choose Convert->Create AAC version. After that, go back to the original track and untick the “Start and Stop” options, otherwise the original track will be modified.

Changing The File Type

Highlight the short version of the song, right-click on it and select “Show In Finder.” You will notice that the duplicate will have an “1” at the end of the name and the size will be smaller than the original one (and it will also be a .m4a file). You will now need to change the file from .m4a to .m4r. This can be done by highlighting the .m4a file, then clicking on it and editing the .m4a to .m4r.

Now, finder will then ask you if you are sure that you want to use the new file type and you will select “Use .m4r.”

Importing The Track To iTunes As A Ringtone

Now, you will have to go to Finder window, double-click the shorter file and you will notice that it will disappear from the box. There are high chances that it will start playing in the background if you don’t have anything else playing. However, don’t worry about this, as the file has not really disappeared.

Go back to iTunes, head to the dropdown menu and choose “Tones” and select the short version of the song that you’ve edited.

Syncing The Ringtone With Your iPhone

Finally, you will need to connect your iPhone to iTunes and click on the little phone icon that’s located to the right of the Music/Movies/Tones dropdown menu. This will bring the iTunes panel for your iPhone and you will need to select Tones from the left hand column. Once you get inside, just click the “Sync Tones->Selected Tones” and select “Apply.”

Setting The New Ringtone

Now, just disconnected your iPhone from the computer, go to Settings->Sounds->Ringtone and set the new ringtone.
