How to Manually Install Android Oreo on Google Devices
The Android community has been waiting for the Oreo update for a while. Finally, Google released it and it made the OTA updates available for some Google handsets like Pixel and Nexus. Nonetheless, the updates were slow and sometimes they crashed. Google decided to release Android 8.0 Oreo factory images so that you can install the new OS yourself.
How to install the Oreo system images
Before you begin make sure that you have the ADB tools installed on your computer and check if your handset is visible to your computer. You will also need to have your device’s bootloader unlocked.
- First, you have to download the latest Oreo build. You can find it here. Next, you will have to extract the downloaded .tgz file, and then extract the “marlin-opr6.170623.012-factory-6304451d.zip” zip file found in the extracted .tgz file.
If you want to keep all your data intact you can opt to modify the flash-all script. However, this may be a bit complicated and risky so you should find a trusty tutorial that will explain all the steps.
- Now use the “adb reboot bootloader” command and point the command line to the file directory with the flash-all script.
- Run “./flash-all.sh” (Mac/Unix) or “flash-all.bat” (Windows).
- Wait until the image is installed and the phone reboots itself.
- Flash the bootloader (and the radio for some devices), and then reboot the bootloader

fastboot flash radio <radio file name here>.img

- Flash the recovery, boot, system, (and vendor images for Nexus 9):
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
- You can also flash cache and userdata if you want a full wipe.
fastboot flash cache cache.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
- Reboot your device with fastboot reboot
Now you should have Android Oreo on your phone.
