And Here’s To You Mrs. Robinson…
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in General Politics…oh and Mr. Robinson too.
To explain, George and Elisa Robinson were sentenced to 8 years for serving alcohol to minors. Yes, 8 years. For given a few kids a couple beers.
Eventually their sentence was reduced to 27 months, but that’s still about 27 months too long. Nobody died. Nobody got hurt. They just made beer available at a party. That’s it. Sure, bad things could have happened, but they didn’t. And now a 16 year old kid is going to be without his parents for 27 months.
This story provides a little more explanation:
In sentencing the Robinsons to eight years, Juvenile Judge Dwight D. Johnson expressed anger that the couple gave alcohol to the teens a month after a classmate of their son had been killed on her way home from another party that included underage drinking.
The Robinsons have acknowledged a mistake in judgment but said they decided to provide alcohol in a safe environment to make sure that no one at the party would be driving under the influence of alcohol.
I’m sorry, but this just seems wrong. Let the punishment fit the crime and move on. Don’t penalize people for bad timing.
