The Worst Advertisement For Pro-Choice Advocacy Ever?
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Abortion, Bad Decisions, CartoonsI’m strongly for reproductive rights and family planning, but I literally can not believe I just watched “A Superhero For Choice!”, a new cartoon put out by the Planned Parenthood Golden Gate.
On to the high(low)lights:
- the mini-movie shows a female superhero throwing a creepy-looking, mustachioed guy, who’s trying to “scare” kids with banal abstinence talk, into a trash can full of water…possibly drowning him…
- She also wraps protestors outside of a Planned Parenthood clinic into huge condoms and makes them explode, right after she talks about 1st Amendment rights…
- Another segment shows her dunking a right-wing “Senator” into his own home-brewed cauldron of green, bubbling goo, thereby cleansing him of his “anti-choice” opinions…
Huh?
Again, I’m all for people having access to places like Planned Parenthood, and I’m not going to hold this one thing against the entire organization, but this is insane! I know it’s a cartoon and I know it’s supposed to be an exaggeration, but there has to be a limit before you’re considered a nutcase. Planned Parenthood Golden Gate isn’t doing their organization any favors whatsoever.
So, do you want to laugh and shake your head? Well, then watch “A Superhero For Choice” and share your thoughts in the comments section.
I owe somebody a hat tip on this one, but I can’t remember who. Please alert me if you find this elsewhere.

I finally found where I…um…found this. Dawn Eden.
Thanks Dawn!

Wow. I had no idea San Francisco had been overrun by fundamentalist Christians!
But don’t worry about the negative impact. You can be certain that the other side on this issue will do something even dumber tomorrow….

Oh, the other side has done things much dumber than this, but it just makes me embarrassed. Jeez…how in the hell did somebody think that this was a good idea? Of coruse, we’re talking about it so maybe that’s the point. Wrapped up in all of that idiocy were some good points that I agreed with. It’s just the whole “eliminating dissenters” thing that I have a HUGE problem with.

that “eliminating dissenters” talk reeks of fascism – and I not being histrionic, I just passed a college class on nazism and fascism

I couldn’t make it through the whole thing. I don’t know which was stronger, the gag reflex or the disbelief. “Wrapped up in this idiocy were some good points?” It’s hard to see them for the wrapping. You have to doubt the judgment of anyone who presents their case like that. Taste is an indication of something more, isn’t it? Worst of all, it thinks it’s cool and cute and it’s so uncool and unfunny. Smug, dorky, out of touch.
