Iraq Giving Up on Constitution?

Parliament announced it had no plans to meet Thursday night and no date for a future session, signaling Iraqi factions were failing to reach agreement on a new constitution before a self-imposed midnight target.
Or are they just giving up on the deadline?

Sounds to me more like they’re just giving up on the deadline.
This actually isn’t all bad. It means there’s still a chance (albeit a slim one) that a secular model of government can still be salvaged in the final document after all, as opposed to the “shari’a lite” regime called for in the constitution as it stands now.

Joshua - Just curious. Is “shari’a lite” the way you describe the Afganistan constitution? Considering they have the same clause about Islam being the state religion and the Afgani constitution is a perceived as a good constitution, why is it that the Iraqi constitution is a not?
