Libby Indicted
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Breaking News, General PoliticsWASHINGTON (CNN) — I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, was indicted Friday by a federal grand jury investigating the public unmasking of an undercover CIA operative.Charges included making false statements, obstruction of justice, and perjury, court documents show.
Indictments in the case were the first in a nearly two-year investigation into the public unmasking of an undercover CIA operative. Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has scheduled a 2 p.m. ET news conference.
He’s expected to step down from his position after the announcement, presumably so Cheney or Bush don’t have to fire him.
I think this is a smart strategy, especially if he gets acquitted. I can only imagine it would be good press for Libby to return triumphantly to the White House.
We’ll have more on this later.

A CIA officer’s name was blown, there was an apparent leak of information to friendly reporters in the national media, national security was at stake, a news reporter was eventually jailed, an administration mover and shaker called: “Scooter has been indicted for possible obstruction of justice, perjury, and making false statements, and the federal judge assigned to the case was appointed by the same executive branch and had previously served in the White House Media Affairs Office.
Is there just too much by happenstance for this to be just a coincidental thing?
