Iran Ignores & Impels …
By Denise Best | Related entries in In The News, The WorldIran’s leadership has been egregious in its anti-Israel statements over the past few months.
Will actions now escalate into deadly results with Iran resuming its nuclear program?
Defying its European partners and the United States, Iran reopened its vast uranium enrichment complex today, resuming nuclear activities that it suspended 14 months ago, according to the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency.
A spokeswoman from the agency said that its inspectors were present this morning when Iranian officials began removing seals at a nuclear facility at Natanz.
The move brought swift condemnation from the United States, Britain, France and Germany, while Russia, which had been making a last-ditch attempt to head off a showdown over Iran’s nuclear program, expressed concern. Iran’s sudden announcement last week that it intended to resume nuclear research had thrown those negotiations into disarray.
Iran’s leadership must feel this to be an opportune time to test and flex their power on the world stage.
Question is — how far are they willing and able to go?

Nope, I think the question is – how far are we (the U.S. or anybody else) willing and able to go to stop them?

DosPeros,
Touche’! That is the better question …
Now for the answer!

If Iran were able to make a nuke, who would they attack?
The only feasible answer is Israel. They would love to attack us,
but there would be that problem with range. They aren’t real concerned about Europe, because the Islamists are slowly gaining power there.
Therefore, I doubt the UN will be interested in doing anything about it.
No big surprise there. Israel will take out the plant within this year, and the US will supply the bombs.
Will the US attack on it’s own? Highly doubtful. It wouldn’t bother me, but for some reason, we’re concerned with our “world image” now.
We’ll fight the Islamists eventually, but more than likely, it won’t be until they bring the fight to us again.

Ford,
Excellent points!
There is a fairly limited pool of possible targets for Iran to attack and the dynamic you described will most probably be the one that will develop … Israel will eliminate the plant with the U.S.’s assistance.
Yes, I agree that we will eventually fight the Islamists and no doubt on their terms which will continue to place our troops at a competitive disadvantage in the future.

There was a story going around about a month ago that Israel was ready to take care of business in Iran. Never heard any follow up, and in any case with Sharon down it seems doubtful they’d act any time soon. The question in my mind is: if we and/or the Israelis strike, will the Europeans support us?

Maybe Iran feels the need to arm itself with nukes because it’s got both the US and Israel making threats against it for no particular reason.
