I've always thought that if the GOP were to nominate McCain, it wouldn't be a bad 4/8 years. But after reading BOTH letters I can tell you I no longer feel that way.

He came off like a child. Or maybe Meghan is right, and he is primping and preening for the wacko far right.

If we stipulate that the facts are exactly as McCain says, this letter still demonstrates that he is not temperamentally suited for the Presidency. And this is not the first such evidence.

Of course, none of that takes away from my respect for the man for enduring 7 years at the hands of the North Vietnamese.

I think someone is trying to get back in the good graces of his party in prepartion for 2008. And what better way to prove loyalty then attempting to tarnish the reputation of one of the most well-spoken and well-respected democrats to recently come onto the scene? I liked McCain too, but this is ridiculous.

Wow. That was pretty rough. Obama's letter didn't seem THAT out of line, and actually seemed to praise McCain in places.

I read an article about this today, and my understanding is that Obama rejected McCain's proposal because he thought a bi-partisan commission would not provide the kind of transparency that this subject matter requires. I believe, but am not positive, that Obama wants this issue to go straight to the committees for hearings.

I urge people to read more about this story after reading McCain's letter because his letter makes it sound like Obama did something horrendous. I have stated before that I really like McCain, but I am not too excited about the disrespectful way he chose to respond to Obama's opinion. He basically called Obama a liar in a really nasty and sarcastic way. That's real refreshing.
