For Those Already Sick of the Foley Scandal…
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Blogging, Breaking News, NewsThis post might make you feel better. And I stress might.
However, first I acknowledge that I’ve been posting a lot about this story, and that’s because there’s a LOT to post about. Just today, Tom Reynolds’ Chief of Staff resigned. Big story that points toward a coverup? Quite possibly.
Also, this story isn’t even a week old yet. So please, for my sanity and yours, let’s get a grip on all the “I’m so sick of this scandal!” talk. More information is coming out and politicians on both sides are talking about it. This is a big story, so we’re going to cover it.
Of course, maybe I should be talking about other things too. Maybe I should talk about North Korea’s proposed nuke test, the numerous G.I.s getting killed in Iraq in a single day, the Amish killings/pedophile scandal, the hijacked jet in Italy or maybe I should talk about the Democrats getting closer to taking back the House.
Listen, we’ll get back to regularly scheduled programming in fairly short order. But for the time being, hang in there with me as we sift through this growing scandal.
Much appreciated…

More scandal!
More scandal!
More scandal!
Come on people. Iraq is a black hole, Korea’s intractable, Iran is another fiasco in the making, we can’t seem to catch Osama and we have to endure two more years with a baboon in the White House.
But dirty emails to a congressional page? That’s entertainment.

If all it is, is entertainment, why don’t we skip it? There’s plenty of things going on behind the scenes while we’re distracted with the bread and circuses getting paraded in the news.
There’s a bill in the House that doesn’t let lawyers collect fees when they sue for religious discrimination, which naturally means they won’t sue for it. There’s another one that says torture is okay, and on and on.
Yes, scandals, especially sex scandals, are titillating, but I think the whole story came out now as a smoke screen. Once they drop Foley, and work out that it wasn’t anybody’s fault for not looking at it before (they will, you know), these great new laws, and who knows what others, will already be in effect.
What really scares me is that Congress, who’s supposed to represent us, is passing laws that will curtail our freedoms and/or allow abuses of power and abuses of people, without anybody hearing of these laws.
BTW, if I missed the sarcasm above, I do apologize. I’ve gotten really cynical and lost my sense of humor about this sort of thing months ago.

Except they’re not working out that it’s no one’s fault. There’s a pretty good chance right now that Hastert will go down. That increases the odds that the House will change hands. And that increases dramatically the odds that we can do something constructive (or at least obstructive) about the important issues.
I wish that wasn’t the way the game is played, but it is. When you get an opening you take it.

Y’all need to really study the game of chess…. Really. Or Sun-Tzu - or even Machiavelli.
