Haggard Bought Meth, Massage…

…but not sex.

This is as I suspected. It’s much easier to live down a drug problem then a so-called sexual deviance. And unless any other evidence comes out, it will always be a he said/he said scenario. So it appears as if Haggard could be off the hook when it comes to the sex allegation.

From ABC News:

Talking to reporters outside his house Friday, Haggard denied the sex allegations but said that he did buy meth from the man because he was curious.

“I bought it for myself but never used it,” he said. “I was tempted, but I never used it.”

Haggard, a married father of five, said he never had sex with Mike Jones, a 49-year-old male prostitute who sparked the scandal when he told a radio station he had had a three-year sexual relationship with the minister. He said he did get a massage from Jones after being referred to him by a Denver hotel.

I’m sorry, but I think Haggard is full of it. His assertion that he was curious about meth but never actually tried it sounds vastly more ridiculous than Clinton’s “I didn’t inhale” line. And if we’re to believe that the man on the voice mails that have been released are Haggard, he was asking about getting new supplies of meth because he had run out.

So yeah, this “curious” stuff sounds like bunk.

However, the gay prostitute failed a polygraph test yesterday:

A former male prostitute who accused Colorado Springs pastor Ted Haggard of engaging in gay sex over the course of three years failed a polygraph test administered Friday morning in Denver.

The polygrapher, John Kresnik, said the results “indicated deception” but he also believed the results may have been skewed because the accuser, Mike Jones, was suffering from a migraine and didn’t get much sleep.

“I’m disappointed with myself,” Jones said on Peter Boyles’ morning talk show on KHOW radio after taking the 90-minute polygraph. “I feel like I’ve disappointed a lot of people. I initiated it and I’m willing to accept the consequences of it.”

However, Jones said he “would not back down” from his original accusations. He also said â€â€? at the prompting of Kresnik â€â€? to take two more lie detector tests after he got some sleep. Jones said he only got two hours of sleep.

By the way…one note…who here has ever been curious about meth? I’m sorry, but it sounds like a really weird thing to be curious about.

  1. Mike Says:

I don’t find it all that odd for an individual to be curious about meth or another substance.

  2. DosPeros Says:

Nor do I, particular a person that is very busy and tired. Not that I’m saying anything…

  3. Monica Says:

No, I don’t find it surprising - especially considering meth is often used for all night sexcapades within the gay community. It all adds up.

I find it FASINATING that such a prominent spiritual leader as Haggard would need to involve himself with a gay prostitute and the purchasing of meth. Even if it was a test of his faith to be surounded by homosexuality and drugs, it at the very least implies that he has urges towords such behavior. Most likely the man who came forward is telling the truth and Haggard is a hipocrate and should re-evaluate the beliefs he’s preaching.

It’s more of the great LIE that the ‘White Anglo-Saxon Protestant’ tell, were they preach walking a narrow path, but even the most devout cannot walk it. If only people like Haggard would come to the realization that no one can be perfect and to to strive for perfection only ends in failure. It’s a fools dream. Instead they should work with their ‘weaknesses’, as ‘librals’ do, and find a balance with themselves.
Seriously, wich is worse to a conservitive, a man who all but admitted he smoked weed and slept with an intern, or one who smoked meth and slept with a gay male prostitute? That6’s when happenes when you spend your time judging others instead of working on youself…

P.S. I don’t do drugs and I’m not gay, but I don’t think it’s wrong to be gay, do drugs or any other private matter that doesn’t hurt others. It’s called diversity, and thats a good thing.

    darkseraph -

I don’t understand why you find it relevant that the guy is “white”. People who fall short of what they preach cross all races and religions.

  6. Shira Says:

Come on–he goes to all the trouble of buying crystal meth and then throws it away? He wants a massage, but instead of looking in the phone book for a licensed professional masseur, he goes to a male prostitute? Ha ha ha!! How many of us have uttered words like “I want to buy crystal meth, can you get some for me?” And how many of us are famous evangelists who actually said those words. This guy has zero credibility (I mean Haggard, not the hooker).

  7. Voice of reason Says:

Funny how the guy who is a Pastor of a Huge Church, and a National organization, with MANY people who vouch for him….has no credibility…..but a homosexual, drug dealing prostitute — has credibility???? what indeed has this country come to.

  8. wj Says:

    VoR,
Well, there might be something about Haggard first denying everything, then admitting some of the accusations were correct (i.e. he had known Jones, and had bought meth from him, but not used it), then that he had also seen Jones for massage multiple times. In short, a steadily growning set of Jones’ charges being admitted after first being denied. Can you see why the accuser, even if he is a drug-dealing prostitute might have credibility that is growing, while Haggard’s is dropping? Even among those whose initial inclination was to accept Haggard’s word entirely.

Credibility is one of those things which suffers when one develops a history of admitting lying (whether via “clarifications” or simply serial admissions of acts previously denied).

It is a SHAME! Usually preachers that are preaching hard on the same issue is becuase they are hiding that same sin themselves and are justifying their own actions. His wife needs to wake up and check his emails and then she would really know what happen when the lights went off at night!
