Giuliani Tops For Most In GOP

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Polls

Moderate and conservative Republicans agree. Giuliani is the guy, at least for now. Specifically, 48% of moderates want Giuliani, while 38% of conservatives think Rudy’s their man.

What about the other guys? McCain trails with 26% and 20%, respectively. Newt weighs in with 14% among conservatives, but barely registers with moderates. Romney is hardly a blip with either.

And here’s the big one…

Eighty percent of both conservative and moderate Republicans have a favorable opinion of Giuliani.

80% And there’s no doubt that most voters know Rudy because of 9/11. To his credit, though, McCain scores a 68% approval in this poll.

The big news here isn’t Giuliani…it’s Romney. He’s been caught in a few odd places lately, and is seen as an empty suit. What will it take for him to really capture that “New Reagan” mojo that all the Repubs are looking for?

We shall see…

You don’t mention which poll you got youy ‘latest’ information from. Especially since most of the latest polls show that Mitt Romney is finally starting to gain ground – especially in the earliest primary states.

  3. Monica Says:

I definitely like Giuliani. I’m going to vote in my first primary to help make sure he gets the nomination.

  4. Chris Says:

The author of the article is right, Romney is gaining nothing but maybe a VP position. The chance to have a Rudy Giuliani presidency would be do too much good for either conservatives or moderates to take a pass

I’m hoping Rudy is not bigoted enough to pick Romney as a VP…frankly I’m surprised Romney is even considered a first tier candidate, I can’t imagine him even getting a tiny fraction of even the Republican vote.

Frankly, unless something really goes wrong with his campaign, I think Giuliani is about 75% likely to be the next Republican nominee, and McCain about 24% (assuming he has no health problems between now & then). Romney sits somewhere around 1% at best.

Of course this is all moot speculation because the Gore/Obama ticket will win ;)
